QUOTE(Super Shanko @ Feb 18 2012, 09:36) I'm with Rookie, sometimes it's easier to punch a nice looking hole in it instead of 40+ minutes patching something no one will notice.
Oh right...people don't really look at a page for more than 20s =.=!

That may be the case, but a true editor's pride wouldn't do such a half-assed effort. Still... there may be some cases that's just plain impossible no matter what you do. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Hahaha! I like that part about Editor's Pride. But this is one of those cases where a compromise has to be made. I suppose you can blame it on our clunky sumbitchin' sideways text, but it's like sticking a square peg in a round hole.

Rookie's solution is not bad, although if possible, it would be nice to see the boxes filled with shades. I guess it depends on how much a pain it really is. No point spending half an hour on a page, certainly.

For me, that's not half-assed, that's practical. I'm not prepared to spend an hour on each page even for my own uploads, let alone a doujinshi for someone else. Like Shanko said, the problem is that English goes horizontally, while the Japanese text here is vertical; you're going to have to redraw half of each page if you wanted to get rid of the white spaces.

Guess it's just me then. I don't like leaving any of my edits half-done. At least make it look reasonably good... There was a doujin that my group scanned, and being cleaner I naturally did the basic work of cropping and levelling, but this one had multiple page spreads so I felt compelled to join them (and I know that nobody else in my group would've bothered doing so). It took me at least two hours to fully join a page spread (one took me 4+ hours) because the way the book was bound made it difficult to get a clean scan along the edges. So the patterns were blurred, lines distorted, both edges not matching well, and so on. Lots of work, and I felt burned out afterwards when I finally finished them. But looking back it now, I can say that I'm glad I did it. Don't care if nobody appreciates it, at least it looks GREAT and that makes me happy. Well, that, and considering the artist, I felt that it would've been great injustice to leave the pages unjoined... Hopefully my group'll have it done soon, so I can show off my work. Hmm... you know, the doujinshi I'm working on has a page spread (just one, thank god) in it with a gap. Would you be interested in joining it up for me? Obviously, I'll post a bounty reward for the work, but only if you're willing to do it.

Regarding that page linked earlier: Photoshop's content aware fill apparently makes it a relatively easy job. One of my colleagues reports that this took twelve minutes of work: From there, the hardest part would be fixing the gradient pattern on the bottom left. The rest of the inconsistencies can be taken care of with the burn tool. Still takes some work, but definitely not the worst out there. This post has been edited by digitXSX: Feb 19 2012, 02:48

Sorry, but not at the moment. Right now, we're working our way through this beast. If you can find someone who has the tools and knows how to use them, though, it shouldn't be any trouble (at least, not enough to justify skipping them).

But enough about my old war stories; content-aware is a nice tool (I don't have it on my PS) but it should never be an easy escape for good ol' cloning. If you are using it, just make sure to make the font/stroke big enough to cover it up (it'll be our secret). I've never done color redraws before, but that looks intense. But yeah, content-aware needs assistance from other tools to look good, and it isn't the answer to everything, of course. It's just particularly well-suited to pages like that, where there are gradients and more random patterns. With those pages, it's just like, say, cloning dot patterns - if you do it right, no one would even know that any text was there.

Updated my editing bounty list. Please refer to my editing bounty post here. Two new bounties, and two more with no bounty yet since I'm cleaning them but if you want to typeset them, let me know and I'll reserve the one you want to do for you. And there's still two older editing bounties waiting to be done. ...and another doujin script that's waiting for checking, if it passes quality test, I'll put up editing bounty for it as well. (Since I need to focus on my older edits and finish them...)

I have an editing task I'd like someone to do. For my next long-term project, I'm going to translate HI·TO·MI ~Goshujin-sama wa Osananajimi~. I already translated the prequel last year, so I thought I might as well do this one too. Anyway, what I want is for someone to edit out the creases on this page and this page. Obviously, use the original images and not the resampled ones. That's it; I can handle everything else. I'll pay 10k C + 10 hath for this work. ETA: Bounty link here. Is that kiddy grade doujin being worked on yet? While I don't want to do the editing I'll let someone else do that but I can try cleaning out those problematic text later this week.
