The K- ThreadStatement of Purpose:There are many problems with the E-Hentai karma system. I'm not going to bother listing them all because that would take too long and I would probably forget a number of them.
Of the numerous problems, there are only a few which any individual user has the power to fix. The biggest and most important of these is that is that members are tacitly forbidden to imbue other members with negative karma. The fix to this is simple: Give people more negative karma. (If you don't believe that members are forbidden to K- others, I recall seeing one prominent member get K-'ed by another because that member was being an ass by K-'ing a third member. You can probably
find that exchange in the Karma comment thread if you care...)
I can, for no reason, K+ any random member and reasonably expect a K+ in return, but I'm not allowed to K- someone who acts like a dick? There is something seriously wrong with that.
The purpose of this thread is to rectify this problem. As the karma system should be a reflection of the quality of a poster, if we can direct the collected wrath of those who care at those who deserve it, then maybe the red karma they collect can somewhat offset the masses of green karma that a member is bound to accumulate or has already accumulated.
Summary: Bad posters deserve big red numbers. Our job is to give it to them.Of course such a thread needs guidelines.
Now, I would argue that a poster needs no objective reason to K- another, but for the sake of avoiding undue criticism, it makes sense for THIS thread to require posters to have a tangible reason.
ALL NEGATIVE KARMA FROM THIS THREAD MUST BE AUTHORED. i.e. NO ANONYMOUS K-'ING. ANONYMOUS K-'ES LOSE POWER THUS DEFEATING THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD.
Note: Because this thread relies on user participation, you should not nominate someone if you do not have any intention of K-'ing them. We are not here to do your dirty work while you keep your hands clean. Possible exceptions include having max karma shield + karma hath perk. I won't like it but I'll forgive you if I love you. Now, what I propose is not an exhaustive list of possible reasons and is liable to be changed due to feedback, but:
Here is what I think deserves negative karma:1)
Spamming the forums- There are many definitions of this, but I would say if someone is one of the
top-5 daily posters and has said nothing of value, that is spamming the forums. (
D.D.D. Is a perfect example) If someone has started multiple useless threads in sub-forums designed to be useful such as HV-Beta forum (
Thanos 008 Comes to mind), then they are spamming the forums. If someone's posts are so obviously an attempt to wrack up their post count so as to increase their daily EXP gain, that is spamming.
2)
A single offensive, or annoying post- As opposed to spamming which might not include any single post that someone might find objectionable but that no one also considers helpful or worthwhile. This can basically be summed up as anything jackass-ish or retarded.
Note: Be careful about nominating Rob or Rad for this. I find them amusing and am unlikely to K- them without good reason. You can still do it, but don't be offended if I do not take you up on that offer. 3)
Complaining about having been K-'ed- Take your Negative Karma like a man. You probably deserved it. If you did not, then you preemptively deserved it for being willing to complain about it afterward. This involves somewhat of a judgment call as to what constitutes complaining. Posting a K- comment in the Karma comment thread without any over the top complaint does not count. Starting a thread in general chat about being K-'ed does. Note: I wanted to include a link to Negimafan's thread about me K-'ing him, but is seems to have disappeared...
THIS INCLUDES K-'ING SOMEONE IN RETALIATION FOR BEING K-'ED. That someone thinks you are a jackass is not a valid reason to think the other person is a jackass.
4)
Training atonement or Karma Shield- I cannot think of a single reason anyone should train the former, and while I admit that preventing anonymous K-'ing is a legitimate reason to train the latter, do not admit that you are training it. No one should be immune to K-.
5)
Pestering a user to know why they K-'ed you or just generally bitching at them for K-'ing you- I'm thinking of Coco here. I k-'ed her and she PM'ed me a dozen times wanting to know the reason. I did have some fun messing with her, but I was in a good mood that day. On another day I might have been annoyed. As someone has the choice to post here, that person can decide to not post if they are in fact amused by said messages.
6)
Giving K+ to a user to “make up for” the K- of another user- This falls under the “Don't encourage jackasses to be jackasses” rule.
7)
Taking this site, these forums, or the H-Verse too seriously- Doing so makes the site less enjoyable for other people. This means you should not continue to bitch about something long after it is reasonable to do so.
If you are bitching about the difficult of the H-Verse, you deserve to be K-'ed.
8)
Duping, Uploading, and Expunging Related Infractions- I swear to God, people better not use this thread to settle vendettas in regards to dupes and expunges. That means don't post prominent uploaders for this reason. What I intend, is if someone uploads a number of dupes, lots of galleries of questionable value, or wrongfully expunges a gallery, then they deserve K-. Now, most dupers don't use the forums, so maybe this will not effect them, but I thought it best to include it for completeness sake.
9)
Abusing this thread- This includes faking a reason to K- another, using this thread as a means to wage vendettas, or anything else that is generally sketchy that I have not thought of.
For simplicity's sake, I think it best to have a standard form of how to nominate a user to receive K-. To that end, I propose something along the lines of:
User Name and K- Link (insert user id# in-https://e-hentai.org/dmspublic/karma.php?u= &k=n)
Short Description of Infraction
Link to relevant posts/threads.
Example for pedagogical purposes:D.D.D. Karma LinkCrime: Spamming- He posts approximately 100 times per day and has never, to my knowledge, had a single post of value. I can't think of any that have even come close to being anything but worthless.
He has been #1 almost since he registered. This post has been edited by Boggyb: Oct 3 2009, 19:56
