I'm a low level 20's newbie, but only have a main weapon proficiency of 2.01 Should I focus on training that? If so, do I need to lower my exp gains so that my proficiency training can keep up?

Is Grindfest designed to keep your exp way ahead your proficiency?

This is for questions about HV mechanics

To ask about advice how to play, go there

Anyway, might as well as answer your questions: You dont have to grind profs at your level, your main concern is to reach level 150+ as quick as possible. Read the wiki, just in case.

Grindfest is not designed to "keep your exp way ahead your proficiency", having low prof at your own level is perfectly normal and will catch up as you reach higher levels. I started as melee when I was level 180s, with 0 prof in all melee forms, and now I have 175 in 2H and 190 in Heavy armor.

Grindfest is very bad for leveling because of stamina-exp ratio, you should try the Hourlies (Random Encounter that occurs every hour) instead. Again, read the wiki

Simple answer is: your monster is too weak or it is not strong enough to show up often

I wrote a character simulator that did exactly that a long time ago. Then I said fuck it, I hate everyone anyway so why bother.

Mine does that, but you have to put it in using your no longer supported calculator

QUOTE(PK678353 @ Dec 6 2012, 04:35) *

Stats. Gear. Auras. Post em, then skillchip will tell you you're doing the math wrong. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) If I had to guess, you've added the PMI from your equipment instead of multiplying. 5 10% pieces would be 41% (1-(0.9*0.9*0.9*0.9*0.9)) rather than 50%, for example.

I would if I actually read this topic

QUOTE(Thot @ Dec 1 2012, 08:58) *

I've wondered about this. I've heard player stats scale somewhat less than monster stats, but considering there's equipment and proficiencies for players, which have a multiplicative effect on damage and scale, too, I somewhat doubt that you actually get weaker by leveling up.
Anyone ever run the actual numbers on this?

Mages get weaker then stronger

Melee should get stronger

If anyone needs me send a PM, not going to check this topic again for a long time.

How do monster stats work? How are they adjusted to the level? Do they have the same effect at the monsters as at the character?

Player level * Monster base PAB / 10 = monster level scaled PAB

So if you are level 141 and fighting a monster whose strength PAB is 13 its adjusted strength is:
141 * 13 / 10 = 183.3

Base PAB can be improved up to a cap of 25 per each stat

I think it's more than that...there's another factor.

10. That's when a boss/legend appears.

- infusion effect is exclusive towards other infusion effects.
- using multiple infusion of the same type won't stack the duration
- infusion gives elemental strike effect, which can stack with weapons' original elemental strike effect unless they share the same element.

So, if we know monster's level and HP, we can try to calculate its base stats, right? If that would be combined with the known PL and class, it could give quite accurate results about the resistances. Is there a formula for MP and SP?

Yes, but the calculation can be quite complicated IMO.

Monster's MP/SP increases by 5% per monster's (possible) move. The initial amount seems to be random.

No, I mean the maximum amount. When you scan the monster, you can see its max MP and SP. Anyone knows the formula for that?
