Never really tried HV till recently. I've read through the first page of this topic and poked around the wiki a bit, but I still feel utterly lost. Are there more hand-holdy writeups on progression? Currently I'm just throwing myself at Nintendo difficulty random encounters with average plate & rapier/shield from the Bazaar/drops, which seems to be going fine, but I have no idea how to approach things when that starts failing me.

Also, since I've never touched HV but got the gold star a while back for non-HV hath perks, I'm sitting on ~1.1m credits I have no idea what to use on as a new player.

I have been in your position 2 weeks ago at lvl 120 i unzipped a couple of stocking stuffers at shine you might have these as well, got a magnificent shield and a legendary mace with it and light armor from the bazaar i just farmed arena on hell till lvl 220. Other thing that might be helpful is to look for unassigned equip at WTS.

Unassigned equipment is either average or below or it is Pre 0.84. I wouldnt recommend both.

Trying playing at a harder difficulty. The beginning will be pretty slow. Don't be afraid to look in the WTS section for potions and draughts because you will need them. Don't soulfuse equips, if you feel you've outgrown them, purchase average equipsthem from bazaar or get free equips from freeshop. Dual wield and 2H styles are pretty strong in the first 200 levels.

The biggest tips I can give you are to install Monsterbation and get used to it as fast as possible, and to install HVUtils also.

HVUtils has a random encounter timer built in, which will say 'Ready' and can be clicked on whenever one is available. Among the many other things it does (in particular helping you to pick what to sell and what to salvage, although you might want to alter its prices to set scraps you won't use to 0c) this is an incredibly useful function that will benefit you.

At very low level, you only have access to a few arenas, and surplus daily stamina. If you have the patience for it, go into a few grindfests and just play til you get killed. The early levels are extremely fast to blast through on any difficulty level (probably best to just stick to normal for now), especially playing 2H (with light armor). At later levels, the standard advice is to transition to 1H, because it's considerably safer than the other melee styles and because mage is a long-term, expensive dream.

There are very very few things you'll be able to sell at your level worth more than single digit credits, mostly because you don't have access to trophy arenas, you aren't currently playing that much, and your drop trainings will be very low (or more likely 0).

Don't fuss about play efficiency too much til you're somewhere in the 200s at least and starting to get more of a feel for the game. Until then, just play more, it'll be fine. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

So I did that and got a mace and a shield (sidenote, how do I get nicer formatted links? I'm assuming it's not done manually). Workable?

Is the gear worth saving up to soul bind? Or other stuff? I have yet to do/explore any of the gear modification systems. They scary.
Also, would selling the stockings and buying something off WTS have been more prudent? Gambling is fun anyhow, so I'm fine with having thrown some at RNGesus. But I do have 4 more stockings I should probably do something with.

Maybe a bit too broad, but how do I go about assessing when gear is an upgrade? I have no idea what to weight things, so I'm not super sure what Bazaar bargain bin stuff is better, and likewise to looking through WTS. Is there a script to help with this kind of thing?

And lastly, what should I be spending my credits on? Arena first completions have bumped me up to 1.25million, and I still have no idea what I should be doing with it in the early stages. Right now I'm doing scavenger trainings when I can remember, but that's about my only expense.

Scavenger training as often as possible to quickly get potions,and Archaeologist training up to 4 or 5, then sell those artifacts. Alternatively, gamble with them at level 200+ to get a chance at a bonus stat (limited to current level divided by 10) or energy drinks, which can be sold for 86k+ to other players.

Guys, I am getting my ass kicked in the lvl 40 arena. I don't know what to do, it's not my first time losing here. Lowest difficulty, I use health draughts and health potions at the appropriate times. I equipped the best gear I had RIGHT before the fight. I did everything, and I lose!

Remember that you need to replace your equip every 30 levels or so, because equip at your level is much stronger than low level equip. Use your ability points and also slot your abilities. Repair your equip if needed, broken equipment doesn't work. Read the advice page of the wiki for more tips, or the first page of this thread.

Well with what playstyle do you play? Did you use Regen, Protection and Spirit Shield? And at what difficulty do you play?

Are the exp and damage perks added on top of the tiers, for example tier 1 25% exp, will turn to tier 50%= 75% total exp bonus or is it only a ladder up?

If i want to start preping for a mage build, what element should i focus on and type of gear?

Legendary Charged or Radiant are what to aim for.
If I recall correctly, Phase robes and pants are preferred slot for Phase as they give out the most MDB. Other slots should be for maximizing proficiency.

Well that depends. Holy is by far the most effective, but also by far the most expensive, followed by dark and the other elements, i am not sure if there is actually a really ranking in those, but afaik fire is the cheapest and elec is quite popular. But of course in the end they all cost a bit when you really want to do something like fest with it.

Thanks, what stats should i look out for or is most important in cloth gear? I've seen peerless go for hundreds of millions, is the difference in perfect cloth gear that great vs..a 70% stat one? Guess i'll have to settle for dark or lesser.
