It was difficult for melees to play IW, at least compared to the mages; it can be agreed that mages had a much easier time in IW than melees did. Because IW was easier for mages than for melees, it means that this was never balanced in the first place. Now mages who can no longer do IW are whining about it. (Justice is served.)

If you can't do IW, then go back to the lower difficulties, just like the melees do.

Some low-level melees could whine too. They don't have ultraskillz or high amount of overcharge yet, plus no good armor or weapon, so...they're fucked, if they'll try to play on something higher than Normal. I am not amused by the plight that they are in now since, as you said, its effected both side. (which people seem to forget, same situation as the resist bug)

I don't know what (melee) people are happy about tbh, it's the same boat for both classes: it takes longer to kill things, and monsters have thus a higher chance to take you down.

People should stop this whole melee vs mage thing though if you ask me, it's stupid to judge HV changes with a "ha! take this you filthy x class" attitude.

Twice as much when you need 60 clicks to kill something on higher difficulty settings doesn't sound spectacular to me.

But that aside, survivability did take a hit, if you use Kevlar, Plate, Power and Shield because of the Evasion changes.

Who's unaffected here it's Shade only, because Shade user can still stay at 0 Burden (formerly, below the grace value of 20 Burden) and avoid any Evade/Speed loss.

it's stopped being worth playing higher difficulty settings unless you can take advantage of the new 100x damage chain skills (which conveniently are firmly in place of the two most maligned weapon classes ever) and we all found out at the same time that leveling up is horribly overrated

Why would you reduce the resistance on celestials/daimons without giving them something back?
The -25 to all physical stats (which cannot be upgraded) already makes them complete pushovers.
At least give +1 endurance or something.


Also, a -25 piercing resistance on giants seems a bit extreme.
A flat zero would make more sense.

I've said it before, but balancing giants isn't going to be a matter of constantly shaving off stats... they logically SHOULD have high stats in areas of strength, endurance, and resistance. The flaw is in the overall system and the fact that the only stats that really matter for monsters ARE strength, endurance and resistance.

You will find better balance by buckling down on fleshing out the system.
Add special abilities, passive ablities, purchasable equipment for certain types.
Build the design around the attributes and a requisite level... for example:
-Any monster can have an ability which adds to their defense (like players "protection" ability), but to purchase it (using chaos tokens) they must first have 12 endurance or higher.
or
-To unlock a monster's spirit attack, they must have 12 wisdom or higher.

This would mean... any and all monsters can potentially have any of the special skills, but certain types will get there more easily then others.

Using the previous example, a giant will easily unlock the defensive ability, but it would be rather difficult for them to unlock a spirit attack, with a celestial being the exact opposite.

so far this patch doesn't seem to be that bad, but i'll have to wait for my daily arena's to see that.

IWBTH seems to easier now, at least at my level.

the weapon skill chains seem nice. would like to see 2H skills as well though (and others i guess).

spirit stance still seems pretty useless to me as a 2H-er anyway light melee. shatter strike is a much better use. and the mp reducing effect is not really useful enough for me to waste two turns turning it on and off (as well as 20 OC).

the change in burden and interference seems interesting. looks like i need to change my gear to newly dropped shades of arcanists. heavy armor does seem to get a huge nerf but then again, i've never even touched heavy so don't really know what to say. the evasion nerf doesn't really seem to noticeable to me but still too early to tell.
