I'm trying to clear lvl 300 - Dance with Dragons on Battletoads - to get a new title.
But I'm finding it very hard, because I keep running out of mana.
Any melee fighters done it yet ?
I could use some tips.

This will (probably) be my last comment on the new change to melee for this patch.

To be fair, this patch seem to help low lv player by quite a great deal. They now can do the same amount of dmg as maxed oc high lv people used to be (and even now...) using SP mode (or 'stance' in the future according to Tenb ... sound kinda lame to me (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) without a single AP spent.

Or so I thought...

I find the amount of spirit point needed to sustain SP mode to be quite taxing, though it can be dealt with. But that maybe only because I'm high lv enough to do this. I don't really remember how much SP I or others when they're still low lv had or have the clear picture of how they play the game now. But I could easily imagine that may be quite a problem... Although they probably just more impress with the new skill they got (which need to be able to assign in quick cast slot, or atleast hotkey, to actually be usable in the long term) to care about this...

The stronger cure is kinda nice though. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I mentioned this in the Experts thread, but I'm not even sure about that.

The idea is that a lower level melee (someone who doesn't have Spirit Shield) finally gets to use his Spirit pool.
This is great, since it was pretty much useless (this I really like about the change: the concept is cool, it just needs to be tweaked/adjusted to be less unfavorable) before.

The problem however, doesn't lie in the fact that you drain a lot of Spirit.
Actually, it's pretty much the opposite for a lower level player: you don't have a use for Spirit - whereas at higher levels/longer runs you gotta have Spirit Shield up or they'll just oneshot you.

The thing is, even if the damage output gets huge with Spirit Stance, it only lasts for a handful of turns - and if Domino doesn't proc a lot during that time, it will result in an utter waste of Overcharge.
After that, you're back to suck-stance, where even a lower level player could benefit from the passive 33 % Overcharge boost.
And if you are in crysfest/grindfest (also on longer arenas), you are just gonna run out of Spirit.
It's also to mention that you lose one turn each time you activate it, which coupled with the stun nerf makes you take more hits.

Even leaving this aside though, what happens here is that ultimately Shatter Strike > Spirit Stance.

The reason for this is that higher level melees just won't be able to afford the Spirit drain from the stance (lowering the drain rate doesn't seem a good way to fix the thing because you might make mages, who need Spirit Shield more, even more powerful), which will be just disregarded. And lower level players will just stick to Shatter because on Hard and lower difficulty settings,it actually oneshots everything which is not very bulky.

Don't really know how the thing could be addressed, I'm actually excited to see what Tenboro will come up with.

Oh and yeah, I'd love a quick patch to put skills on quickbar - actually, a 15-20 slots quickbar would be even better than that, I'd kill to have it on Firefox.

Well, as a low level melee player, I find my 1H + shield is (even?) weaker than before and my 2H is much stronger due to the skill. It seems balancing among three kind of melee is required.

Yea all melee is weaker now unless you use spirit attack once your overcharge is ready.
Even then, you'll struggle to get to where we were and lose spirit points doing it.
So temporary solution ?
Heavy bleeding weapons.
I still say ethereal estoc is the best if you like clicking(e) -spirit.
But my bleaders do over 3000+ damage to enemy for 7 rounds after they get tagged.
But still. ethereal estoc wins, just takes more clicking.

Playing devil's advocate, this can be argue against: You create problem for yourself by putting yourself in a situation that you need to cast spirit shield wherein low lv player don't do that. Your argument is invalid. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

And someone can walk up to you and said 'just adapt to it' which there exists a few way to do this (and I already done that) ... So while the problem is real and I feels you, it's not a solid complain and can be shot down easily. Same goes to this problem in your quote below.

The balance within fighting style need to be tweaked for as long as I remember and still do now, but this had nothing to do with this patch.

And 1H is not exactly a 'strong' fighting style to begin with, so...

You don't play on IWBTH or what? You're just suggesting to lower the difficulty level - everybody can do that.

I don't know what on earth you're 'shooting down', but I suggest you read again what you quoted, because I just made a comparison between a lower level player and a higher level one when it comes to Spirit management.

I don't normally do IWBTH on higher arenas since it take too long, usually BT in great status and lower when not, IWBTH for RoB and low arenas (I usually too lazy to bother doing low arenas though... yeah, I'm stupid), and Normal for Legendary arenas. If you think every high lv people play IWBTH all the time, this is false.

My adaptation to the current situation is to train more item slot and bring more SP potion, elixirs if necessary. I still play the game with the same difficulty as before, albeit slower and more annoying...

I couldn't care less about trolls tbh, but I think it'd be pretty stupid to just bitch about changes in hope that Tenboro notices and reverts them - especially when he's already made clear that the previous format/skillset was a placeholder for the latest changes. That couldn't have been my aim lol

Anyway I'm sorry, I didn't mean to create any drama or anything. I had some more playtime with HV and thought I'd add mine to your first post to share some thoughts with the other players. If there's something that might help him make them game better it's constructive feedback.

I'm pretty sure being terrible and non-fluid is an intended feature too.

That said, it's pretty clear that the only solution is to wait until things become more fun (ie. the new features actually work better with the current combat system)

Or buy up phase.
