それとなく → Indirectly, obliquely.
釘を刺す → To give a warning, to remind (a person) of.
しばらくの間 → For a short while, for a while, for some time, for the time being.
If I got it right, "I have to warn them discretely." is close to the original, but "I have to carefully make things clear with them" might sound more natural.
