You can be a perfectionist about your wording/translation (like I am/have been =/ ), or you can say, yeah, that's the thrust of what he's saying, and go with what works well.

In the absence of full context, I'd say sure, that's good enough.

Thanks people (and of course Thira) =). I think I have a good idea of how I'll go about it.

Edit: Sorry to bother again but two phrases are giving me a bit of trouble:
ついでなのでそのまま(ドッピュン)しちゃってイイデスカ?
やっぱり私が(防波堤)にならないと
I'm not really sure what the characters in the parenthesis mean.

Hi everyone!
I'm really not sure about this title: "女子力磨きは従者のたしなみ"
I thought it was something like "Improving Girls' Power Is Expected of a Servant", but now I'm not su sure. Can you help?

I understand it as saying that improving feminine attributes is something prudent for servants to do. I wouldn't use "expected" in the title.

Now, I have two problems of my own here too.
”交尾に関してやぶさかではないがその。。。言っちゃなんだ俺なら俺はチョイスしないよ。”
I just can't get the idea of this...

And

What the hell is that second scratch there? "大*脚とか"
I just can't identify the second kanji there...

Prudent, huh...

That looks like 大開脚. Seems to be something like "legs spread really wide".

This "たしなみ" almost means "modesty".

Title and name of the main character.

I've never seen used like that. Is that just an honorific, a way to say that she's 27? Or the fact that it's placed after the "job" rather than the name means that she's been doing that for the past 27 years?

To me, it sounds like she has 27 years "of experience" of being a magical girl. But I've never seen it used like that either, so I could be wrong.

Yeah that's my idea too. There's a running gag through the story that she's a Magical Girl but she has other activities too (she's a housewife, she has a daughter, she's PTA president...) so I guess that it makes sense.
If we consider the average magical girl starting at age 8-10 that would make 35-37 which would fit those other activities of hers.

歴 (れき) can mean either "history of" or "experience of". It could also be used to refer to "curriculum" or "passage of time" so yes, that interpretation that she has 27 years of experience as a magical girls does seems to be the correct one here.

Right.
Also you can translate it as "Magical Girl(ing for 27 years)" lol.

Hahaha that sounds great, I'll try and see if I can make it work within a sentence (the formula is repeated in several text boxes, not just in the title).

Thank you all. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Does someone knows if there's an English expression equivalent to 中二病? I found the term "eighth-grade syndrome" but would like some second opinions about it.
The expression I want to translate is ”中二病設定に溢れてるんだ”, which I thought about translating to "Overflowing with eigh-grade-symdrome"

Thanks.

I think "It's full of eighth-grade syndromic situations." is better.

Hmm...I see.
I still wonder if there's no one word equivalent instead of "eighth-grade-syndrome".
Well, thanks for the help.

I suppose it's a doujin from that [en.wikipedia.org] recently aired anime.
Eight-grade syndrome is the standard fansub translation for it, while apparently the official/corporate version is "adolescent delusion of grandeur".

I warmly recommend the first one, mostly because of the fanbase acceptance of the term.
