Anyone, please? I need help translating these two phrases:

真面目なヤツほど一度ハマっちゃうと怖いんだよな

The context for this first phrase is that the speaker is getting suspicious that a potential love rival is getting serious about going after her boyfriend.

おそらくそれとこれとは理由の根幹が違うその矛盾が苦しいんだな

The context for this second phrase is that the speaker realizes why a friend of hers continues to keep acting out a role even if she appears to be uncomfortable with it.

Thanks!

I am sure this is a surprisingly dumb question for me to ask, but I want to make absolutely sure I understand the intent properly before I release anything.

In the second panel of this page, I normally would interpret 「みっちむちじゃないか!」as "Aren't you chubby!?". However, I don't understand how that would make sense in the context. He already knew that was already the case, and in fact, the point of that he is making in the bubble is that 「また太ったなお前!」 "You've gained weight again" ~ meaning she was chubby, and now she is even chubbier than before. I don't understand the purpose of the 「むっちむちじゃないか!」 statement under this interpretation, which makes me suspect I am misinterpreting it even though it is a very simply-structured sentence.....Is he implying rather that she was at some point chubby, lost weight, and now she's chubby again and he's expressing shock [in which case, 太った could be more like "You've gotten fat again!"]? I could believe that if 1) we had an explicit mention of such happening and 2) this page did not occur merely 1 month after the first chronological events of the story (i.e. the non-color pages), when she was chubby (so I doubt she lost weight, than gained more in that time frame). The only other thing I could think of is if he means "Aren't you supposed to be (just) chubby!? [as opposed to fat]", but I don't see that as supportable by the Japanese phrasing as far as I am aware. I would appreciate if someone could clarify this matter for me. It is a very simple sentence, but I don't comprehend its function here.

A slightly related dumb double-checking question is if she said 「今日はお風呂でするの...?」because she was worried if the fact that she また太った might turn him off. She is asking to double check with him that in spite of また太った, they will indeed お風呂でする, correct? I only ask because I felt like normally a 本当に or something would be added to this sort of sentence to more directly show the question as being about (re-)confirmation.....This second question isn't that important as the outcome does not really affect the translation wording (unlike my first question), but I wanted to make sure of the intent.

I guess so. But as I said, for the first question I asked, under the way I would normally interpret the sentence, it don't make sense in context to me. "Aren't you chubby!?" looks out of place when he for sure was already aware of that fact.

Dialogue like "Aren't you angry!? You've lost yet again!" make sense because the secondary part acts as the cause to the first part (i.e. the result), but in this case, the result isn't a effect of the secondary part - she's already been chubby even before また太った occurred.

QUOTE(Dammon @ Nov 25 2015, 19:16) *

「みっちむちじゃないか!」 isn't really a question.

Do you mean that in the sense of that he's not expecting her to respond ~ i.e. it's a rhetorical question? If so, I am aware of that already. My issue with the sentence is that the thing he is charging her with - "being chubby" - is not a new fact that only recently came to be true. She was already むっちむち since even before a while ago, and she continues to be so now. Whether he is questioning her or just saying a statement about it ["You're chubby(, aren't you!?)] makes no difference; I don't comprehend why he said such a statement when apparently it is not a result of the second part of the bubble. To me, it's like if he said to her "Aren't you Japanese!? / You're Japanese" or something. Why did he randomly say that? We've all known she was that way. It's not like she recently became that way and thus her new status is remark-worthy. I don't understand the point. And her being みっちむち doesn't act as a prerequisite to また太った (if it was past tense, then it could act that way -> she was むっちむち, then was not, then became むっちむち again, thus you could say また太った to describe that, but as I said in my first post, there's no evidence of that); even if she wasn't むっちむち, the latter part of the bubble could have still been said without issue. From my understanding, saying みっちむちじゃないか! appears to be a completely useless thing to say. He said a fact that had always been the case.

I guess to make it simple: Could someone tell me why he said the first portion of the bubble?

I understand how this can be seen as making a mountain out of a molehill, but I literally don't understand the point of that sentence. It looks complete random and out of place to me.

今でも余裕でイケちゃうけど

not sure how 余裕 would be translated in this context and if イケちゃう is a conjugation of 行ける or 行く or neither.
