Hi. First-time help requester trying to (hopefully) finish my first *complete* doujinshi translation

Everything was going pretty smoothly until I came across this: ギボヂイ

I've checked every resource I could think of in my attempts to decipher this little monster with no signs of success. The best guess I've been able to come up with (mainly by saying it out loud over and over and just staring at it) is that it might be a corrupted version of 気持ちいい using the harder (voiced?) versions of it's kana components ( with "ボ" replacing "も" since it doesn't have a harder version) in order to give it more of an edge.

It seems to fit with the rest of the stuff the character is screaming in her throes of passion (just to be clear I know what the rest of this says. Also I hope your pure, innocent soul will survive the fact that I don't know how to censor the "ン" in the word below and therefore make it completely unreadable to those who have yet to learn the ways of the world... or how to search for dirty words in a Japanese/English dictionary (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ):

So if I guessed right, please let me know. If not, please inform me of how I would correctly translate this or, if this turns out to be some untranslatable gibberish, please give me some idea of how I might possibly write it in English.

I always assume these sort of tings were very literally phonic translations. Are there more sensable translations like "huh?" or "what" or some sort of interjection for these?

Is it really necessary to change them that much, though? People who read doujins and the like have often seen some anime and have a general idea of what those expressions mean and what they sound like. At least I personally preferred them just like that when I still weren't too familiar with Japanese.

But if you really want to change them, 'huh?' is the closest English alternative to " え？" and for " ええええぇぇーー。。。" you have to be creative, like using "wha~~t...." or "really~~ .... ???" or something.

Funnily enough, we don't really use it like that in Canada (or at least in southern ontario), as much as people think we do. It seldom stands alone like in this case. We usually use it punctuate something as a question.

"You're going to the store, eh?"

That's more of a clarification sound there, isn't it?

I'm sure there are lots of people that would recognize Japanaese approximations, but I'm also sure there are a lot of others that wouldn't. One could hope/assume their audience might get something that's a little bit of a cultural leap, or one could put in the extra effort and make it genuinely familiar and still true to the source. It doesn't always work, but it's worth striving for.

I get what you mean, it's just not how I immediately think of it. Whenever I see it in translation I always think its an odd choice.

Apparently the guy who wrote the script I'm looking at didn't speak english very well, so it's really only giving me context. I'm probably going to have to rewrite it for the most part. Some of the tone can be a bit unclear, so I not sure if some of it is poorly translated or I'm just looking at it all wrong.

Well, there's no single method of translating something that is going to please everyone, so a lot of it is up to the person doing the translating.

I personally think American spelling is an odd choice for translating things, rather than proper spelling. But it seems to be prevalent because there are a lot of American J->E translators.

Essentially, do what you want to do, as long as you're consistent and you are conveying the original intent as closely as possible.
