Edit: Even worse, I use MORE mana with just Haste+Regen II than I do as a mage with Haste, SV, AF, Spark and Regen II throwing Fimbulvetrs and Cyclones around. That's just sad.

your mana cost as a mage should be 100% or less, but as melee its over +150%. Also mage gear should give you a lot more magic points vs a melee build.

That'd be nice. I have over 400 AP just sitting there, gathering dust. That's like 2/3 of the way to maxing a second Ability tree. Except I haven't played HV in two months.

Yep, my 2H damage sucks and I figured a few of you might get a kick out of it. I know more or less the problems. 0 prof? Check. Mage Stats and no Heartseeker? Check. 100 OC? Check. Superior Estoc of the Thrice-Trolled? Double Check. Probably not going to do much about all that until I have enough AP that I can spare some from the mage tree.

On the other hand, if you're offering an EEE of Slaughter I can go get some Fire-Eater Leather to mix in with the Protection Plate I was using to really play the part of the hapless newbie. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

If you just start meleeing and don't have proficiency, things can get a bit difficult. Especially if you do so after lv. 200 XD
Of course, large amount of OC/SP and better equips would definitely help.

Yep. Decided to see how well it worked at 0 prof (badly) and perhaps hit 100 prof before I came back to it after say 250 with Eila and friends to deal with. I just grabbed an IWBTH Crude for fucking around and gaining prof. No danger whatsoever, I'm just way too lazy to turn off IA Haste and far too AP starved to pick up Heartseeker until I decide to do this seriously.

Mainly just my terribad damage (mana cost is roughly equal if casting in Stance). When it takes as long to clear each round as it does for you to mage through an IWBTH Real Life clear with Cold, you know your weapon sucks.

I switched from mage to melee since the patch ever since Monster Lab got buffed to hell. At first I had the same problem similar to yours, but I have been doing well after 6 months since the switch. For 100k, Protection Power/Plate are very good for starting melee, you can grind both armor and weapon prof in them. Of course, you can go with starter Fleet Shade set (just dont expect good result with the starter Shade).

My equipment is actually on loan from other players (as seen in sig), but I am gradually purchasing better equipment. Like this bad ass Estoc I just won for 55k, sure it is not Slaughter, but at least it is bearable with the potencies of Swiftstrike and Butcher

Yeah, I'm not fond of it either. It seems to me like a gimmick to get less popular crystals to sell because you have to buy the crystals you don't need to get the ones you do. I tried looking for crystals this morning and I can only find a couple stores with only a couple types in stock and several that only sell them in huge packs that cost hundreds of thousands of credits to buy one of.

How dare you accuse me of such heresy. . . Fire-Eater Leather and Plate, 'tis like wearing socks with sandals in June, simply garish, simply not done. I'm using a pile of Superior/Exquisite Plate/Power of Protection (picked up the last piece in the same auction you picked up that Estoc actually).

By the way, how high were you willing to go on that Estoc had I actually been bidding for it seriously? I was deferring to you since I knew you were probably intending to seriously use the thing, while I was just playing around.
