I have always had a question, is it really necessary to conduct a speed test when the client starts? The actual operation relies more on mutual testing between clients in the same region. You know, it is difficult to connect to the rpc server for speed testing in some regions, for example China. This will directly affect the client's startup process

It's not really necessary to run a full speed test if the client has been offline for less than three days or so, for Asia the actual reading probably would get overridden anyway. But it does need to test for connectivity, and the cases where the client has enough valid client-to-client tests to override the initial reading and where it can connect at all but it can't run a speed test probably aren't common enough to make it a special case.

Hello Pineapple, I want to ask your opinion on something. The real reason for the overall quirkiness in the China region is that the client-to-client test results cover up the problem of high failure rate of downloading images through rpc proxy. The speed of mutual testing between clients in China is considerable, but the speed of connecting to the hentai rpc server will be limited, so every time a new picture is loaded through the Chinese client, it will most likely fail and the user experience will be poor. And the fallacy of quality score will affect the allocation of static range, so I suggest adding some kind of rpc download test and including its score into the quality assessment, so it can be better allocated and evaluated, what do you think?

Chinese clients are largely exempt from the quality system because of how quirky the network is, and the new range priority system should have massively increased the cache hitrate which would have improved things significantly, but it's not really possible to fully address this on our end seeing as the clients will necessarily have to go outside the country to fetch any missing files.

I recommend that H@H client can add a proxy mode so that it can get files via system proxy / socks5 client ( like ClashForWindows as it's most popular in China now) and establish https service at local port.

I tried to add "javaw -Djava.net.useSystemProxies=true" into startup script. However, in this case, some mechanism prevents a specific port from being opened. So I had to set up a transparent proxy with exclusion rules on my router to achieve the following 3 goals:

1. H@H can perform network speed testing without going through proxy
2. H@H can establish https service on my pppoe ip and certain port
3. H@H can fetch files via proxy

I don't know much about the Internet. There may be some problems with my expression. I hope you can understand.

Looks like this would be fairly easy to add, so I'll look into it.

After the layout tweaks, front page seems fine on mobile, but home page and others look weird, tested with chrome and firefox.

By the way, China's network environment is even beyond quirky. Some provinces or isps have blocked hath.network, not dns poisoning but sni is blocked, so even request to H@H servers inside mainland china may still fail. Even gfw doesn't block this domain. Don't know how they decided that the domain is to be blocked, but this domain isn't likely to be unblocked by any means.

I'm aware that some pages don't work very well on mobile, I'll do a pass on them at some point.

Not much we can do about that.

Yeah I know there's really not much we can do, but I'd like to share some findings on circumventing the block if anyone is interested.

TL;DR
These measures are not so practical compared to it's complexity, but may still be useful.

1. Adding a dot to the end to the domain, "hath.network" -> "hath.network.". works for some environment, but it won't trick gfw (although gfw doesn't block hath.network) and major browsers or libraries just don't seem to support such usage(maybe the trailing dot is trimmed). openssl s_client works though.

2. Use ipv6. Obviously H@H doesn't support it, and it won't trick gfw either. But still, works for some environment.

3. Use HTTP/3 or ECH. Both of them work against most situations including gfw, but it requires server-side support and DNS HTTPS RR. The client also needs to support it and most browsers require DoH (which sometimes feels inconvenient).
HTTP/3 is deployed for e-hentai.org and is verified to work thanks to cloudflare. ECH is still a draft and browsers only have experimental support for it. But it's always better to have an alternative option.

Could eh add "Normal Size" thumbnails to private galleries ?
"Normal Size" option is not allowed to be used in private gallery.

For private galleries, "large size" thumbnails are selected by default...
Selecting "Normal Size" for default thumbnail configuration does not affect this.

Thank you !

Normal size thumbnails aren't generated for private galleries, so no.

'Forums' was removed from News page with this update? Can't see it anymore.

Actually I can't see HV and whatever was before either. Just noticed cause News page is my way to get here.

I gave you a CSS solution for this the last time you asked about it. I just tested it and it still works. If you need smaller thumbnails for mobile, it can be done with Stylus.

It'll hide it from the top navbar if your screen is too small, but there's still a link to it at the bottom of the page.

Well this is a Google Chromecast. Don't know how it counts. Before looked pretty good, now like a stretch mobile version.
If there's a link to the forums is all good.
God bless

It probably identifies itself as "mobile" in the user agent string. You can either switch it to request the desktop version if possible, or fiddle with the Viewport Override setting to force it to be wider.

Agent string did nothing. V.O. from 1001px on worked for me.

I can see the forum link up top but something was missing and it was the HV link.

The HV link is now way down there at the bottomless pit of the page? I need to check my mon-mons. Please, please, it was good the way it was.

If your window is wide enough the HV link in the top bar will reappear.
