As with the Taser Shockwave, Car Bomb and Punji sticks pit traps, they're assuming that both sides generally have at least a little time to set up trap-based weapons.
also, I'm doubtful on how often a French gun would "Explode in the users hands".
That seems a little counter-productive to what the French would have had in mind. Jam? Maybe.
Anyways, the next match (after this current one) is Navy SEALs vs. Israeli Commandos.
To answer your question about French weapons, you really need to look at most designed in the Third Republic period, roughly 18705 t0 1941. They were so vicisouly nationalistic that they would only buy French weapons even when the military themselves warned that they were dangerous. The exploding in the chamber problem was not limeted to the afore mentioned SMG but also to the standard issue light machine-gun that also routinely ripped cartidge cases in half and burst barrels with frightenly common use. It was so bad that the thousands recovered by the Germans were simply scrapped, the Bren, and it's Czech/Belgian parent was seen in a much better light for modification and shipment to allies, the Germans themselves possesing the supurb MG-38 and MG-44.
The French went int both wars with the most primative infantry rifle of any of the combatants - the 3-shot bolt action being outclassed even by the Italians Carcanos - all in the name of nation pride. At least it was a solid and servicable weapon, and a good club when the oddly shaped cartriged proved bothersome to load.
Look up the developement history of the Bloch 152 fighter, designed by the man who eventually became known for the Mirage series. Sadly typical of the inter-war period.
All I was doing was questioning the logic and so-called reserch that this show pretends to do. While I find little to debate on their choises of blade weapons - except on the thrusting vs slashing debate, when they start getting past gunpowder they seem to really lose their way and end up sounding like they really don't have a clue. It's too bad really, the base concept of the show is interesting but it just doesn't stand up to serious scrutiny. (IMG:[
