Yeah, there was a time when Mage was the only viable style, way before Monster Lab was implemented, and I think around the time where there was still the End of Time Arena (500 rounds of Schoolgirls).

Maging was the only way to go back then. It was the reason I switched to Mage, so I can finish End of Days.
Of course that was like 2-3 years ago.

I believe T_Starrk was referring to about 1 year and half ago, when maging was widely considered the true endgame style - I remember because I was gearing towards maging but then had to stop playing, I still have some of that stuff in my inventory lol.

There were very few "stubborn" melee top players (Bunko I believe?) at that time. The big money was spent on phazons and the usual phase gear, while melees fought over the few ethereal maces.

I think Sushi was using an Eth Scythe to do the 400-round schoolgirl marathons on IWBTH. Back then, doing those arenas on IWBTH was insane, even for mages.

The only way this idea would be fair is if that Auto-run feature costs 500k credits per run. And puts you at -100 Stamina.

Its not free, it still costs stamina, but you get no equipment, no artifacts, just trophies that are coded in, the measly double credits (which is less that what you'd get running it) and it still costs the regular amount of stamina as if you had done the arena.

We all know that barring stupidity, players overwhelmingly win the Arenas they play. Well, once you get over ignorance and inexperience as well. You could make this Auto-Battle thing workable, in theory:

1. Every Arena Auto-Battled exhausts all 13 battle items, no exceptions, AND a minimum of 5 MP and 2 SP, even if not put in battle item slots.
2. No Arenas out of sequence - you want to do Auto-Battle T&T, you have to do the 23 Arenas before (either consecutively on Auto-Battle or manually, but they have to be in cooldown).
3. No drops, not even mandated ones.
4. Every Arena Auto-Battled drains Stamina at the usual rate, but also locks other battles - including RE - for 20 minutes real-time. If you Auto-Battled all the way to T&T, that means 4 hours before you can enter any other battle series.
5. Schoolgirl marathons lock up for 2 hours each AND additionally cost 10 Feathers, 2 Voids, 2 Aethers, 8 random infusions, 50 random scrolls.
6. You can only set up one Auto-Battle per Dawn event. You can have any number of Arenas Auto-Battled, but it has to be set up consecutively, and only once per day.

The idea would be to make it so that you won't want to do it as a daily exercise, but it's not unbearable if you didn't have time that particular day and still wanted to gain something from HV. So if I don't have all that much time, I could do up to the 20-round Arena, and Auto-Battle the rest. I'd get the EXP and credits, but at the same time draw down horrendously on my consumables, and I won't get any equip/artifact drops, which is half the reason I play anyways.

One could argue you're not really playing a game any more, but hey, it can be balanced.

as you said, the fact that you are not playing for years is just an accident of time. it's not like you become dumber and dumber for each day you play this game. well, that's probably a factor too.
