So, with the new implementation in the proficiency system, What is the best way to gain staff prof now? because the old way: -Pick a Crude quality gear, -Enter IW -And hit like crazy with your staff it's less optimal than before. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

There is no best way, staff prof is dead.

QUOTE(Sapo84 @ Aug 16 2017, 17:53) The problem is not if redwood is better or not, but the fact that willow has been buffed a lot more.
does that mean I need to change the price of this thing? This post has been edited by lololo16: Aug 16 2017, 23:10

QUOTE(lololo16 @ Aug 16 2017, 23:09) does that mean I need to change the price of this thing? Since the new prof change is more or less for lvl500 players only it probably won't change the value of a bad/average rolled item.

42+ days for a single level means staff prof will trail your level so I don't count that as a viable option either (and it's still by far the best method...)

of course it cannot be the only thing. only an optimization. and i don't think it'll be so hard to remember to whack a mob every RE... on the other hand, while you can afford to lose a few rounds in arenas (and even more on GF) you'll really prefer not to miss the chance on REs. but yep, since they will award you a good chunk of the boost, maybe you'll cut the training by half a dozen days by whacking everywhere... I already tried with 2 Pfudor RE and I only gained 0.002 points of staff prof (0.001 for each round). At this rate, it will take me weeks to gain just a single point of proficiency. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/faint.gif)

QUOTE(Scremaz @ Aug 17 2017, 07:18) i cannot really understand where you put the first one from and why you used the other two.
however, (base) L range is 35.64 ~ 38.52.
your shield has 37.24 (base) block. it's roughly halfway, so i'd expect somewhere in the 50% range.
now, let's do (your_roll - Lmin)/(Lmax - Lmin)*100 = 55.5%
if we want to be more technical, it's a mere 1st degree proportion.
Where did you read the shield base from? My maths were: The base stat is the unknown. So I took the scaled stat formula and divided both sides by the brackets, and that gave me the formula to find the base stat I used the block chance (44.95) to substitute the scaled stat The shield level to substitute level The 2000 from the scaling wiki page to substitute the level_factor for block That gave me a base stat of 216.blah. Max-min/100 = the per-percent interval between min and max range Then assuming min is 0% and max is 100%, I worked out how many percentage intervals there were between the base stat and the min stat, and that came to be over 6000% This mathematical method has worked for end pabs and adb on power helmet of slaughter and power armour of slaughter.... it just didn't work for the shield and I dunno why?

QUOTE(The Original Zeo @ Aug 17 2017, 00:34) Where did you read the shield base from?
i hovered the stat with the mouse. if you cannot do it, then simply do base_stat = scaled_stat / (1 + level / level_factor) and then do the linear proportion. btw, this works for vanilla rolls. if you IWed your item (even if it basically applies only to ADB on melee weapons and to MDB on staffs) you should subtract IW effect at a certain point - dividing the roll by a ( 1 + 0.02 * potency_level). on the other hand, if you forged it more complex (and still-not-completely-disclosed) math has to be used QUOTE(The Original Zeo @ Aug 17 2017, 00:34) Max-min/100 = the per-percent interval between min and max range
this is quite wrong. even assuming you meant (max-min)/100, that operation gives you... uh... a fraction of the maximum possible spread? only way for that to give you a meaningful value is for the whole result to divide the (your_roll - min_roll) amount. QUOTE(The Original Zeo @ Aug 17 2017, 00:34) This mathematical method has worked for end pabs and adb on power helmet of slaughter and power armour of slaughter.... it just didn't work for the shield and I dunno why?
1. you were pretty damn lucky 2. ADB scales quite a lot with levels, so the error wasn't visible. basically, the error is lower when ( base_roll / scaled_roll ) is lower, and in case of ADB is the lowest possible one (since scaling factor is the lowest)

It seems that the further from your current level, the greater the gain in proficiency. But the gain falls very quickly over time. Now I just tried to gain proficiency in Cloth and Elemental, which were the only ones that were not at the maximum before the new patch (425 of 426). I played 40 rounds in IWBTH and ... 0 proficiency gain!!! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Even for Heavy, which is the fastest in terms of gain, I only got 0.041 today. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) Apparently gain proficiency will be an eternal suffering. it seems to me that this update merely exhasperated the logarithmic trend of the prof gain... btw, i just did a PF RE with my 1H set. before starting to hover, i casted a deprecating, an elemental, a divine and a forbidden spell. these are the results: QUOTE You gain 0.002 points of heavy armor proficiency. You gain 0.002 points of one-handed weapon proficiency. You gain 1.708 points of forbidden magic proficiency. You gain 0.004 points of divine magic proficiency. You gain 0.002 points of supportive magic proficiency. You gain 19.926 points of elemental magic proficiency. You gain 0.437 points of deprecating magic proficiency. end profs (melees are all capped): QUOTE Elemental 183.029 Divine 394.805 Forbidden 242.539 Deprecating 279.678 not bad. Just to clarify, binding multiple spells to the same hotkey with Monsterbation isn't allowed, right? With the recent proficiency overhaul, I figured it might make sense to bind a divine + dark + elemental + deprecating spell to a single hotkey and cast it every round to help keep up with the proficiencies. But I'm assuming that's a no-no? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) This post has been edited by friggo: Aug 17 2017, 06:20

there's nothing wrong with, say, binding a spell rotation of three T3 spells and sleep (that will default to arcane blow when all spells are on cooldown)
