In my experience, 1H + heavy is better than 2H + light from level 100 onward. With garbage armor and weapon, I could handle difficulties I had trouble with using 2H + light.

At about level 250, superior armor weapons and shield are ok but you'll be wanting upgrades. Most important in higher 200s will be the weapon (magnificent rapier of slaughter) and a shield with good block. You can get okay magnificent armor by setting up a WTB thread and asking for the pieces you need at a price you can afford. I almost had no exquisite armor, but Decondolite appears to be a specialist in that grade.

WTB can be very useful in acquiring pieces at your level. The rapier I used I got via a trade using a single amnesia crystal and I used it from 270 to about level 360-375 or so. The magnificent pieces I asked for averaged perhaps 30k each. A good shield was tough to acquire but in the end I had a great drop in the 300s. Before that I used a kite shield with > 90% block.

And let's make this plain. 1H is "very popular" but the two most expensive pieces prior to the approach to 400 would be the weapon and the shield. Mage, by contrast, makes 1H look insanely inexpensive. Once you have decent equipment, then the "girlfriend" arenas provide a steady enough source of income to plan getting better equipment.

I stop to train Adept Learner after I know monster become stronger as I leveled up. So I decide to grind proc while my level low (I plan to grind proc 2H and DW to become Niten). And I grind light armor too for those two. My proc for 1H is "0" and heavy armor just 100, right now my 2H + light armor much stronger than 1H + heavy armor. I just know when see someone with 9999 elemental proc (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif) proc is very important. Maybe if I get 9999 2H proc 7 mob defeated with one hit, 9999 DW boss defeated with one hit, when become Niten all defeated (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Basically, cotton armor is needed for increasing your proficiency, which reduces the damage mitigation against your spells. An elemental mage with cotton + 4 phases will deal way more damage than a mage with 5 phases.

My advice is to do some basic calculations. You need proficiency factor of at least 0.67 prefeably 0.7. This can be achieved by a total base proficiency bonus of staff + your cotton of about 14.5 or a bit more, I have 14.76. That's the sum of the two base proficiencies. Redwood has good elemental proficiency, so as you have peerless redwood, shoes will do. But get good shoes, with high enough prof.

shoe range: 5.97 6.68
peerless redwood: 8.29
so you can calculate how much you need. for 14.76 you need 58% prof shoes.

1. No, unless your 2H weapon is Ethereal. A 2H weapon has high burden, so it will reduce your evade/crit chance. You still can use a Featherweight Chard to reduce its burden, but keep that in mind. 2H leather is playable, but there is definitely better.
2. Yes and no. Yes because it does the job better than Cloth, no because it won't protect as much as Heavy. If you want a cheap armor that does the job of "armor" a tiny bit, then yes it tanks a bit.
3. Don't soulfuse it. Find a better one instead and keep your soul fragments for exceptional gear.
4. Up the the WTS shop owner. Read their conditions, if they have any.

regarding the Plate vs. Leather topic: personally i always found Leather having better overall protections than Plate. only reason i may still found for Plate would be Shielding prefix, but still not worth all the hassle.

Some spend 1 ticket for every lottery like me. Some go ultra hard with 20k tickets on good lottery. You can't go higher than that.

From what I've seen for staffs, Pen 5 + Spell 4 or Pen/Spell 4 + Eco 1 seems pretty popular.

I just got Spell 5 + Pen 4, should I reforge or keep it?
