What's the best kind of shield for 1H Mage? Nimble or Battlecaster?

Battlecaster or barrier. Probably nimble ranks as third, but quite behind

Ohh okay. I was thinking maybe nimble because your main weapon is supposed to be a waki right? So...

Yes. But block is better than parry, when appliable

Started doing IWBTHfest, seems to be slightly more profitable per round than doing arenas, if a bit more time consuming. Took me about 1h 15mins to do 550 rounds (started dealing too much damage per round to the point where cure, full cure, health potion and health elixir where all on cool down multiple times). Any tips to make it faster/smoother? I play a dark mage, started using scroll of protection around round 200 to reduce incoming damage and was using infusion of darkness (though not sure how much that helped and would only last about 10 rounds or so each). Also not sure if I should have fled earlier and just did two go's of x amount of rounds rather than seeing how far I can get with increased difficulty.

That's not the reason (cloth armor already has high resist and MMi, >95% of the damage is physical), it's the disparity of the bonus that makes block more valuable.
PMax block for buckler is 31
Pmax block for buckler of barrier is 37.5
PMax parry for buckler of the nimble is 9

Block forge and scaled to level 500 is around 51.5% so a Peerless shield already reduces incoming damage by 51.5%
Parry forged and scaled is around 15% so Peerless nimble is reducing the damage by 15% more
Barrier block forge and scaled is around 62.3%, so Peerless barrier is reducing the damage s 22.5% more (barrier block - block) / (1 - block)

For a better analysis there should be a post by sssss2 somewhere in this thread.

Since we're on the topic of monsters, two quick questions.

1. I've seen PL1100 quoted several times as the "magic number" to reach. What's so special about 1100 compared to, say, 1000?

2. How exactly does the scavenging upgrade work for monsters? 20 levels of scavenging = monster always brings 2 gifts?

These questions got kinda buried but I'd still like to know the answers (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

1. That changes every time someone gets a monster higher. It's basically a race to the top.

2. yep. full scav = 100% chance on double gift.

I go by the list of scanned monsters.
When 30 days have passed without the monster getting scanned, the line goes pink.
Very few lower level players scan monsters. Usually just the heavy and higher level players.
I scan continuously. I'll scan at least a hundred monsters a day, and that's probably a very low ball number.
I try to scan at least 1 monster on every round I play if they show up yellow. (A different script to show yellow)

If you start the list descending from the PL2250 monsters down, the majority of monsters have been scanned in the last 30 days. This means the monsters are showing up regular enough to be scanned by heavy players that flee.

At about PL1104, you start seeing a few pink lines meaning they aren't seen as often to be scanned.

This is where the >PL1100 comes from.
There is very little pink above PL1104.

By the time you get down to PL1040, it's majority pink.

By the PL880's, it's all pink.
Which means higher level players that both scan and flee never see them.

The name of the script is HV - Scanner, and it's written by Jenga201

I can't find it on the WIKI page, and I don't remember how I came about getting it.

Out of respect for Jenga writing the script, could you ask him via PM for a copy?

Incidentally, while checking to see which script it is, I noticed the line "Copy to nblist" is entered as "false".
Jeez... I hope I haven't been scanning all this time in vain. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Soo I just started out and read the advice page. It seems to tell me that I can go anything now until the higher lvls when I am rich and can afford a mage build. Currently I am not sure what to add for my character stats. I think it was mentioned somewhere to even it out until 200 (advance advice page). Can someone give me some directions as to where to go?

Thanks!! (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)Attached Image Attached ImageAttached Image

You're doing it right for now. You don't have to use shade armor at your level, leather is also possible. Remember to change your gear regularly, keep them close to your level.

Get a club instead of an axe, the stuns make things so much easier. And switch rapier to offhand, so you get the parry bonus.

Thanks for the advice guys! So for the stats I"ll just keep +1 evenly to all whilst the int being level * 0.7 as shown on the guide? I'm asking this because it says the wis should be = level but thats impossible with each level only at most granting a +1 to each stat right now.... lol

hey guys, i'm trying to figure out why my next step should be for raising my ADB. currently i have 10.8k with Free Flowing Dust; my Rapier is at max forge(80 attack) for me and each piece of slaughter is between 15-20 attack upgrades.

Grace and Knowledge: 28 mill

Equip upgrades:
150 slaughter = 16.5mill
150 Repurposed actuators = 9 mill
150 catalyst = 1mill
metals = 2-3 mill

total = 28mill (more or less)

so i could probably get around 150 upgrades on my armour pieces
or 5% increased damage on 10.8k. hmm after typing this out im pretty confident 150 upgrades is going to be better than the hath perk for now. i will likely get between 4-7 ADB per an upgrade.

upgrades will likely net me an addition 600-700dmg including a bonus of 15% dmg from my existing dmg perks. (about an addition 90 ADB?) so it seems that upgrades is probably the way to go but not by an overwhelming margin. can anyone else chime in on this to tell me your thoughts on this matter?
