if it's IWBTH, then weaken is ok. otherwise no need for debuffs on regular monsters imo. just make sure you can wipe them out in a few turns

it's Nightmare - Hell i can't imagine how deadly damage they do if i setting in IWBTH

maybe just one shoot will hit me on the ground (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif)

and i am also very curious about MAGE MASTER PLAY STYLE

how did a mage master fighting with these power class monster every trun in IWBTH

and how they can survive (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

spirit shield will make sure they don't 1 shot you (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
spirit shield = at least 4 hits to kill you if you're full hp

as for IWBTH, i only fight a few at a time. (3 usually. sometimes 4-7 when i feel like clearing low arenas on IWBTH)

if it's 3, i'm pretty safe since 3 can't kill you in 1 turn unless they're super fast (hit you twice in 1 turn but that shouldn't really happen unless your agi is really low)

I'm finally well enough to play more HV, so I'll probably hit 200 tomorrow-ish. Is there any gold standard method of taking out the Trio as a mage (on Heroic...), or should I just abuse their weaknesses without regard for their death procs?

Kill Yggdrassil, then cycle through the rest with the tier 3 element AOEs to make the elemental debuffs explode for extra damage. Once you hit level 250 though you can ignore that and just Soul Burst 'em.

Edit: To clarify, what I mean by "cycle through" is start with: Fimbulvetr on Urd > Storm of Njord on Verdandi > Wrath of Thor on Skuld > back to Urd. This maximizes elemental weakness and exploding debuff damage. You'll be simultaneously killing them so no death proc worries.

Also I temporarily enable the Quickbar2 addon to speed-up debuffing them at the start, Magnet > Slow > X-Nerf > Poison > Weaken > Bewilder. Nowadays though I just use Magnet, Slow, X-Nerf, Weaken.

mmm... i'd actually recommend saving verdandi for last. in a lot of cases verdandi's speed boost actually *matters* for me (the survivors can doubletap me). my usual order = yggdrasil > skuld > urd > verdandi

treat them like elemental school girls if you want to be cautious. but really, they're just manbear+friends with a buff or two. i usually keep my goddesses weakened/blinded/poisoned out of habit. (sometimes i nerf the "main target")

I debuff them all (except the tree) with Poison, Weaken, Bewilder, and Nerf. Then Silence the tree and spam Soul Harvest until I receive my Sapling.

Are you using a Demon-Fiend set?
I think spamming Tier-3 Elemental spells would be more mana-efficient (especially if you're using an Elementalist set).

Nope, I'm all Fox gear with Elementalist staff.

I don't even have any of the T3 elemental spells.

Would you mind posting links to your equipment?

I had a fox phase set which I ended up selling because it just didn't work for me.

I would think an Owl set would work better.

The proper question should be:
Joe, at what difficulty are you playing Trio? And do you need to recharge your mana through ET?

Normal, ETs are only done in the pre-SH spam if at all.

I hit 200 and two things surprised me: 1) All of the new enemies seem really fast; and 2), all of the new enemies have no weaknesses. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) Overall the difficulty doesn't seem to have increased much, if at all, but I definitely don't see myself going beyond Heroic without doing something to dramatically increase my damage output. Maybe now is a good time to consider hanging up the Elementalist gear.

Maybe that's the reason.
At lv.200 it shouldn't be that difficult to beat Trio at normal difficulty, so it doesn't matter which spells you're using.
If you're playing at heroic or above, Tier 3 elemental spells should be better.

1. That's why I keep haste in autocast.
2. I usually distinguish monsters in 3 categories
- those receiving much damage from pestilence and die from purge because they have so little hp left
- those receiving less damage from pestilence and die from purge because they're weak to holy
- those WTF giants which don't die from Ragnarok+banish
3. Yeah, at lv.200 you should probably find EDB clothes. Even the ones with worst EDB will give you more damage boost than those elementalist with max prof.

I've just attained lvl100 & I would like to know if I should invest my APs into the Spark-of-Life tank or should I just keep my Scrolls-of-Life handy. I'm a heavy armor, melee fighter.
Should I also invest in the Haste tank? I've so far Poison, Weaken, Bewilder & Blind.

I remember vaguely there was a discussion somewhere here a while back.
