Thanks guys. QUOTE(dairyman20111889 @ May 12 2017, 17:14) I wanted to answer this one because, for the longest time, I was confused over the wording IA's description. The latter is correct.
The spell you put on autocast will constantly be active, and it consumes a little bit of MP during each action you take. For example, if you set Haste on IA, it won't spend 100 or whatever MP at the beginning of each round - instead, Haste is always active, and it drains a small amount of your MP each time you attack, etc.
The MP drain is very manageable with Mana Draughts.
At your level, I'd focus on picking up serviceable equipment first, if you haven't already.
My equipment is just a mix of averages/superiors from drops but it's good enough to let me live through nightmare arenas and hell random encounters/lower arenas. Or should I be able to withstand a higher difficulty at my level?

QUOTE(gerrr @ May 12 2017, 01:28) should I be able to withstand a higher difficulty at my level? I don't remember specifics of my extreme early game experience (it was like two years ago), but that sounds about right. Eventually I found my way into an Exquisite Rapier and Force Shield, and that let me play on IWBTH and PFUDOR.

That's about right for the 100s. Your heath pools aren't large enough yet to go higher. High 100s, the expansion of your mana/health pool will make hells a little easier. The steady increase in your pool sizes in the 200s will also simplify your approaches. But as pool sizes are affected by gear, hath perks, etc, YMMV. BTW, if you have a shot at innate arcana 1, then you can put spark of life on there, and it /will/ make it much easier to manage casting.

So I found out that an explosion happens if I use Drain on an enemy that has an elemental debuff. Is there a way for me to boost the damage of the explosion? I'll post a pic of what I mean. Edit : Ugh, I fucking hate that Donald Trump pet. It's just instant game over for me if I get him in the battle. An enemy team of 7-10 in PFUDOR? It is a problem, but I can beat it. Donald Trump in Hard mode? I'm dead. For fucks sake, that pet deals around x8-x12 of my health in a single spell attack, which is especially stupid. The only, ONLY enemy I have trouble defeating is the Donald Trump enemy. This post has been edited by Epicskunk: May 12 2017, 16:36

may I ask for some weapon recommendation??? I'm playing DW light with this main and offhand... but i feel too squishy when I play RE on nintendo, casting heal too often... when I check on the wiki, it says that rapier waki combo is much better on def than club rapier combo... the problem is that the rapier of slaughter I have are only these mag rapier and exq rapier... the other rapier are mostly balance one and 1 battlecaster... so should I swap my club with one of those rapier??? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) and which one of these are better for the offhand weapon??? Leg waki swift, mag waki swift, mag ethe waki balance...

When I was around your level, I liberally used Silence during harder battles to shut down multiple tough mobs (Better Silence = hits multiple targets). Spamming mass Silence + mass Weaken helped my survivability a great deal in rounds with 7+ mobs because it prevents sudden damage spikes from enemy spirit attacks. And as a bonus, I now have 270+ deprecating proficiency thanks to all that debuffing (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Oh, and don't expect to ever escape Trump. I'm currently level 374 and I encounter him at least 50 times a day (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

QUOTE(Epicskunk @ May 12 2017, 11:48) And...?
These explosions are a feature mostly used by melee currently. It seems that in the past, it was interesting to exploit explosion damage and be a "rainbow" mage, so you would cast a sequence of elemental spells or be casting holy/dark spells in turn to get explosion damage every turn, but in the current patch, it's better to focus only on a single element as a mage to deal the most damage possible. The fact that deprecating spells cause explosions to happen with the breached defense status effect is, like Scremaz said, because deprecating spells seem to be considered as forbidden. This might be corrected in future patches, but if you want, you can try grinding your deprecating proficiency to see if the damage increases, but your best option would be just level grinding until you get to lvl 310, to get the 0 cooldown imperil that hits 3 targets. Other deprecating spells aren't that worthy casting as a mage, offering little advantages in spite of the mana cost, even more on low levels when most abilities are still locked up, and spells still hit only 1~2 targets.

yep. it was a sort of a try to boost spell damage. imperil made all that useless. unless you're struggling to survive. at that point, whatever you have is useful. silence in primis.

All I see is people reforging their weapon to try to get the best elemental strike to go with their spike shield. Do mages still make use of it? That would be another point that makes holy better than dark then I guess.

no, no. there a bit of wrong here. explosions are triggered by EDB, therefore only if you deliberately cast a spell. melee's elemental strikes aren't magical and (even less) based on EDB. they are physical and based on ADB. therefore, the only way for a melee to exploit the effect of a spike shield or a spell is to enjoy the mitigation reduction which comes from the effect. to exploit, saying, a Breached Defense proc and trigger and explosion you have to cast a Forbidden (or at least a deprecative) spell. for, saying, a Searing Skin, you have to cast a Cold spell. hitting the target with an Arctic weapon isn't enough.

Block is the priority, but if you end up having to choose between some options, get the one that offers the best for you, like STR DEX and END primary attributes(PABs), or more defense, like protection or nimble suffix, or even both things if you can find one. Try getting a decent block and good suffix, no matter even if the shield has only 2 PABs, then you can look for more specific stuff when you are a higher level. block. which means force shields or bucklers of barrier. i looked for parry just to take use of what you already had. don't mind that class too much. as appreciated bonuses, PABs (especially DEX and END, and particularly DEX).

But 1h + heavy doesn't notice much that Trump does, other than live a little longer.

Ok, did an experiment. I started Grindfest on Hell, an easy setting for me, and as I killed mobs, I cast one Weaken on each. Did 20 rounds and quit, and my deprecating almost doubled, to 1.56. There are ways, though any other suggestions appreciated.
