QUOTE(LOL50015 @ May 4 2017, 13:22) Optimal stat distribution of 1H mage is similar to a pure mage's. 1H mage only casts spells to attack. The waki on the main hand is only used to provide spell damage bonus and parry. Overcharge is used to trigger spirit stance for reduced mana usage.
furthermore you don't even have to care about IWing weapon. just saying.

I was actually studying a hybrid style of Niten+shade arcanist+imperil some days ago, as it has AoE damage, and it could possibly even work on higher difficulties, but I gave up even trying, as the build would completely lack Counter-resist, so I'd also have to deal with that besides monster parries.
At this point it would already be much better going for a mage if spells will be cast often, and just remain as a mindless melee to not have headaches.

such a build can work, but only if rather than niten you use a Mace. a certain higherup is going this way and doesn't think in the slightest to change it, afaik.

Niten has better survivability if you haven't fully forged evade on your gears, but I'd stick to it if I wasn't using a estoc on higher difficulties. QUOTE(End Of All Hope @ May 4 2017, 12:40) ...what about Niten Mage? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) Considering you have to go for arcanist gear, which isn't really cheap, and will lose the entire MDB and EDB bonus, along with not having any counter-resist, I don't think it's viable. If you were to compare it with 1H mage+cloth, then going DW mage would be better to get the bonus parry on the off-hand weapon, but letting go of block for some extra parry and EDB doesn't sound that good to me.

So, here are my targets in the game for now.
1- Get a total of 40 Deprecation profiency to unlock Imperil. 2- Get a total of 100 Divine profiency to unlock Banishment. 2.1- Go up a notch to 200 Divine profiency to unlock Paradise Lost. 3- Focus on Random Encounters to gain Soul Fragments. 4- Gain the correct gear I need. 5- Unlock the auto-cast slots.
Is there anything else I need to do?

For 2.1, you will need to level up to 200 first, as proficiency is always capped at your current level. Once again, I suggest using rapier+shield+leather armor so you can escape the low level bottleneck faster and have an easier time being a mage, as more abilities and gear will become available with higher levels. Other than this, it's a pretty decent schedule if you don't have much time to play.

Rapier+shield+leather armor setting? That ain't happening, since THAT doesn't help me, sadly. As I said way before, I'm one of those people that suck at things that are the best, but be the greatest at things that are normaly bad. Edit : To be honest, unlocking Banishment and Paradise Lost is not too hard for me, since I ALWAYS use Smite. This post has been edited by Epicskunk: May 4 2017, 18:38

imperil is unlocked at 30. silence is unlocked at 40 (or 45?). but it's a good spell, so it still has a meaning to go till 40. in your shoes i'd also go for magnet (100 prof), while you're at it. i guess you'll need all the possible help.

How many of you tend to just dump Legendary Leather gear off in the bazaar? I've been holding onto mine because, Legendary, but I've probably got between two and three dozen pieces by now and they are clogging up the inventory.

I don't even check the stats, if it's leather it's bazaared immediately. No time lost, clean inventory, immediate credit gain (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

If you have some low level pieces, meaning 350 and less, you can try selling them, but if not, then both leather and non-shielding plate are just bazaar fodder, unless you wish to keep them for emotional attachments. You could also salvage them for the high-grade materials, hoping their price rises in future patches, but getting the credit income from selling them is much more reliable.

Yep. You can try getting a battlecaster shield, as when you get to higher turn counts form just casting deprecating spells, monster damage gets ridiculously high. You could also just flee when you run out of mana and restart the battle after using restoratives. Up to you.

I see someone say orbital friendship cannon is useful for melee. Is that true? If it is, why?

yes. definitely. QUOTE(as013 @ May 5 2017, 10:59) If it is, why?
because if boosted in the proper way (that means, with Spirit Stance and Heartseeker on, possibly even Overwhelming Strikes if you play as 1H) it can go as far as clearing one round out of two or three by itself. out of all the melee styles, 1H has the best way to use it since it can basically generate OC while always remaining in Spirit Stance, but the same applies for DW, 2H and whatnot. only things that changes is how frequently you can cast the skill.

(IMG:[ i.imgur.com] http://i.imgur.com/LLXovqI.jpg) Why is my Mage so weak? Level 229, used to be able to clear Eve of Death (lvl 180) on Hard and To Kill a God (lvl 165) on Nightmare. Now I've returned after a few years and I couldn't even clear Dark Skies (level 60) on Normal. Keep dying and my equipment keeps breaking. I'm losing more Credits than I'm able to gain.
