I believe penetrator is a must for any mage for the counter-resist.

Spellweaver should be more inclined towards dark and holy mages that have a higher cast speed, and Archmage or Annihilator should be more desireable for elemental mages.

I'm still learning more about mages myself, so it might be better to get actual mages' help. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

robe and pants can be salvaged whenever because of bad suffixes. EXP distribution seems ok-ish.

Penetrator5, spellweaver as high as you can.
More firepower helps, but needing less cures helps more, so spellweaver is usually just as good as archmage (and a lot better for IW/Fests).

As for your equip, I'd IW9 the staff with whatever pops up. The Cotton gloves can stay, but if you're serious about IWing them you'll need to go for Juggernaut potency which can take quite some time and/or money. Your Robe and Pants are only gap closers without any long-term value (or even mid-term for that matter). Replace them as soon as possible with either Elementalist Cotton or Phase gears of your element.

They iw all gear to 10 except staff: 9 is enough. The 10th is always hollow forged. And that is not necessary for mage. But in reality: I want to rename my staff " morning wood" or something like that. So I will​ go to 10

At IW10 you get void strike, which is meaningless for mages, as the playstyle is supposed to cast only spells and kill enemies as fast as possible instead of hitting them in the head one by one with the staff.

Using ether tap used to be good, but with unlimited draughts/potions/elixirs, mana shouldn't be a concern for mages anymore, so hitting monsters with the staff just slows down a mage's clearspeed.

The only benefit of IW10 for mages would be to rename the weapon.

we're speaking only about the staff. of course armors should be IWed to 10 - or whatever it takes to reach Jug4~5.

however, reason is that IW10 potency for a staff is Hollowforging (provided you pick a non-ethereal one, like you should) which is basically useless for mages. people may prefer to keep it at 9 hoping that Tenboro adds a more useful lv10 potency. which is on his to-do list, btw.

Also, some players are hoping a future update might introduce an actually useful IW10 potency for mages, so keeping your staff at IW9 would allow one to instantly acquire such a new potency instead of reforging your staff completely (which might be quite the hassle if you already have something like Penetrator 5 Spellweaver 4). Lastly, if you use IW service instead of doing it yourself, IW9 simply is cheaper than IW10.

Yes, good choice. It took me only 173 shards to get pen5 spel2 eco2. I'm going to try again when I've gahtered my courage and amnesias.
