Okay, so I've been reading the wiki about soulfusing just to get an idea what it is, and there's this line:
Note that a player cannot soulfuse with anything that is 100+ levels above their own.
Um... why would anyone ever soulfuse anything above their level? I was under the impression that players can't equip weapons with levels higher than their own? Or will that equipment's level be dropped down to the player's level after soulfusing? In which case the question still stands: why soulfuse an item if it's just going to tank its stats anyway?
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here, but I'm still learning many of the basic mechanics and I'm unclear on the whole concept.

Level be dropped, stats would autolevel

If you are level 200, and you want a rapier of level 300, you can't equip it. Until you Soulfuse it. Then, the level of the rapier scales with your level. That makes it instantly level 200! Happy days.

Okay, that makes more sense. But if the level 300 weapon is scaled down anyway, how is it any better than just soulfusing a level 200 rapier in this case? What do you mean by "autoleveling" stats?

1st: level 200 rapiers are hard to find. level 300 rapiers are more common. 2nd: After soulfusing, and you level up to level 201, your rapier will also go to level 201. And if you are then 202, so is your rapier. All stats keep improving. That's why everybody soulfuses really good gear. But it needs to be good gear.

base rolls are always the same. what will change are the scaled values - which are those the systems actually uses to build your character - according to this formula: https://ehwiki.org/wiki/Level_Scalingif you plot it in a graph with your level on x axis and scaled stat on y axis, you'll see it's a straight line - regardless of the gear and whatever else. if any, the stat (thus the scaling factor) will change the slope of the graph). tl;dr: the item is always the same. your character uses it less or more efficiently depending on its level. that's all.

So using the above example, if I soulfuse a level 300 rapier as a level 200 character, and then keep that weapon as I level my character up to level 300, that rapier would then once again have the exact same stats as it had before soulfusion, right? I've only been playing HV for like two weeks and we're already talking graphs and complex formulas... (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Ah, the innocence of starting a new RPG... exactly. btw, before soulfusing an object read carefully its pros and cons. Anyone who's played this game for years surely has all this stuff already ingrained in them. But as someone who just figured out how soulfusion even works, wrapping my head around all the in-depth aspects of this game is not as easy. Either that or I'm just dumb. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) no, i mean - the formula is only one. the graph is a straight line, the simplest possible. just pick a roll, graph the scaling formula for lv = 0~500 and then you'll have: * if the item is soulfused, roll = (roll at your level) * if the item isn't soulfused, roll = (roll at item's level), possibly adjustable to (roll at your level) via soulfuse. need a quick spreadsheet?

- modify only yellow cells
- i take for granted that you know what you're doing with rolls and whatnot. for example, while typing "base roll = 1000" will still give a result, it doesn't have an actual meaning
- i didn't remember to throw in the 100 levels condition (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

@dmyers59 If you want to survive high difficulty in general I believe the recommendation is 1hand/shield/heavy. For leveling you want to find your sweet spot that'll maximize your exp/time (maybe hell? maybe normal?)
You might also want to consider collecting pony figurines to gain access to the orbital friendship cannon
Definitely rely on the shops for your gear. Very hard to self-find decent gear for yourself.
Don't be afraid to pump more into the ability boost training. I have ~150 points myself.

Hi, I have a question:
Is it worth to spend many amnesia shards to get Juggernaut 4 or 5 on Power Armor? I mean does this 8%-10% more health make a difference?

personally i'd say no. i mean, a certain amount of Jug for free or cheap is obviously well-accepted, but 1H is already so tanky on its own that it's not really needed. furthermore, past a certain threshold we're speaking about bragging rights only.

On that note, is there ever a time when you wouldn't want Capacitor or Juggernaut? Do the elemental mitigations help much?
