i'd say either DD or GS. with the current price of crystal packs, i'd say Crystarium is worth only for heavy GF-grinders.

it will enter in battles against other players, whose level depend on the PL of the monster itself and the difficulty the player chooses. but for PL < 100, i guess we're still speaking about 1st-day-beginners or so.

remember to both name it and its attack, otherwise it won't enter battles. and to keep both its bars on the green part. but use a happy pill only when it just entered the yellow part of the morale one.

gifts will be brought at won battles and every 3 days, and they may vary from LG materials (basically worthless, but still a plus if they are of the same kind you're using) to special components of bindings. as for which kind of bindings, uh... the whole table is at your disposition (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Personally, I'm on the monster page several times a day, so it's never came into play on my side.

But, do the gifts hold until you visit the page, like a Dawn event, or is that just a record.
And if they do hold, is there a limit to accumulation?

The best I've seen is 1 monster with 6 gifts, but that's turned out sort of common with a couple of the high level ones.

And of course.... I'm always on the page for one reason or another.

afaik they should hold at least for a bit. though as you said, once you have a certain amount of mobs and have reached a certain level, you'll find yourself checking the page quite often, so the problem doesn't even exist to begin with (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

it happened to me too with one mob @ PL50 and 0 Scavenging. and a few other times a "mere" 2~3x gifts. i guess there's still a base chance for mobs to bring multiple gifts and Scavenging simply boosts it a bit. but who knows...

For the melee playstyles, just spam attack over and over again blindly in your usual runs.

For mage (staff prof), I think people do crude IW runs so the enemies have crap damage but high hp so you can keep on hitting them with a stick over and over in as few rounds as you can to save up on energy. For magic.... I think people just wait until they have their equipment upgrades ready and just do their usual runs on a lower difficulty compared to melee and adjust difficulty afterwards.

See if you can replace sleep with imperil. You'll want faster imperil for the cooldown decrease

Also, once you start maging, you'll be spamming imperil (depreciating) every round so your dep prof can still be increased on your usual runs once you're serious about mage playstyle.

Imperial is at 30 depreciating, been trying for a week to reach it (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . Also been maging since level 10 or so, i know people say to go melee first, i just find maging more fun.

Ah i see. Well then, go with your plan until you get imperil (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Also started as a mage back in ye olde Hentaiverse and it was indeed fun (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

And for the experts... would frugal be a good prefix to aim for if I'm not planning to do grindfest? Or elemental prefix is enough?

another good choice may be Weaken. it's cheap and available since the start, with 1-CD ability unlocked at lv165. if you want to raise both Deprecating and Forbidden at once, you may set a Weaken/Corruption rotation, with Weaken having higher priority so that it will call for Corruption only when Weaken is on cooldown. and having Corruption 0-CD natively, it basically means that the sequence of spells casted will be Weaken/Corruption/Weaken/Corruption/Weaken/Corruption...
