How high block can you get with high 1-H proficiency, shield armor and one of those uber block shields?
200 in proficiency gives you +10% block, I've seen shield armor with over 4% block bonus, and that shield has an amazing 38,62% block.

How high is it possible to get if you kit out for it?
And is block the primary avoidance, or is evade first? And when does parry/resist come in?
Since as I understand it, with 20% evasion and 50% block, that means if you get hit, you have a 20% chance to evade and a 40% chance to block and 40% chance to get hit.
Assuming that evasion goes before block, otherwise it's 50% block, 10% evade and 40% hit. Still same chance to get hit, but kinda important for the chance to counter.
Assuming also that you have no parry.
Parry works only against melee attacks and resistance only against magic attacks, correct?
And parry also gives a chance to counter?

So in what order are they applied. If you add in 20% chance to parry to the whole mess above, things can get kinda skewed. The chance to get hit would be 32%, but would the chance to get a counter be 60% (block and parry counted first, evasion last) or 48%?

And does crits go through avoidance? Or is crit counted as a chance from when you hit?
So if the enemy has a 10% chance to crit, would you get critted 10% of all hits, or 3,2% of all hits (10% of those that go through your avoidance). Or would you even get critted 10% of all hits and then be hit by the 32% of the remaining 90% non-crit hits?
Assuming in all cases that there is no miss chance.

I'm not sure about anything else you asked, but the wiki at least says that counter-attacks can happen on either a block or a parry. Because of that, whether block is applied first or parry, you get the same percentage of attacks that could trigger a counter-attack (in your example: 20% + 40% = 50% + 10%).

I DW with 21% parry and I don't think I've ever countered in any patches.

Can only counter when you block/parry with a shield equipped, not while dual-wielding

Is it just me...or does everything hit much harder after this latest update? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I used to be able to run through arena without burning potions, and all of sudden I need to use quite a few just to stay alive in the later rounds...

Take a quick look in the updates section of the forum and you'll know why. You may want to ramp down on the difficulty if you're having trouble. Or, get better gear.

The best shield i have is this, which looks really nice for being lv -38- unfortinately, i'm not about to try to level this booger up unless i were to go for sword&board, but it's prof only helps itself, and i'd like to one day enjoy the fruits of labor poured into 2-h and DW for Niten and having fun in the venerable levels. Unless niten gets it's own prof, then fuck all ya'll niten all the way.

If i had that 38% block shield i would be trying to make S&B work, so hard. I even have an entire shield-armor set laying around just in case it becomes useful later. (doubt it)

Shouldn't use cloth as melee these days unless they have a particular resistance against a boss you're going up against. In a recent patch, wearing a full set of a type of armor (i.e. full cloth) grants bonuses depending on proficiency levels to encourage people to stick to one class-defining armor type.

As melee, make the switch to Kevlar (for damage reduction) or Shade (for evasion and attack damage bonuses).

Currently, monsters are doing too much damage for Kevlar and Heavy armor in general to negate, so you're better off using Shade.

Not bad. Good Block, considering it's a freaking Battlecaster shield (And a buckler at that). Good attribute bonuses...
Yeah, it's good. Not the best, but more than decent anyway.

About when should I try to take on Konata and the other girls? And what should I be ready for when I do face them?

Also, level 80. New Arena unlocked, with a 7K first clear prize. Huzzah.

I took them on around level 80ish, but you'll really want Weaken and Bewilder before you take them on without dying horribly.
