I've been trying out this mace http://hentaiverse.org/pages/showequip.php...;key=ff9b989323with the same setup I have in my signature. While the stun and damage certainly is nice, I really miss my shield (especially on the higher difficulties). So my question: What about clubs? How do they compare to maces? I could equip a shield with it and not feel as naked as I do now.

from what i've read from all the high level mages it sounds to me like maging is basically wearing a beer hat filled with mana potions, and having 30 beltpouches with mana potions, and just ramboing everything while constantly sucking down the potions as fast as possible unless you want to stop and take a break by tieing up one enemy and stabbing him with a straw to suck mana out of him over the course of a long time instead of guzzling pots.
Meleeing is far slower, but seems to cost less in item use.
So if you just save up all your drops from early and mid levels, once you get to higher levels where maging is good, you can just strap them all onto yourself and have at the enemies in (wizard)berserker mode.
*I am a melee, and probably won't go mage anytime soon even if it is more viable, i do not have personal experience with the subject of maging. I am not a referentially valid source of knowledge on that subject. AKA, [citation needed]

Remember you have parry as well.

Parry is good, but block is better. Because with shield you also have a chance to stun the monster when you've blocked its hit (and since the last patch stunned monster takes 2x damege) plus you have a chance of counter-attack.

Anyone know what power level your monster has to be to bring you high quality materials? My leprechaun princess is at level 157 right now and she usually gives me medium quality and sometimes low quality mats.

Sounds a bit low to me. You need more than that.

YOUR MONSTER TAKES TOO LONG TO KILL. Edit: Also, I'd like for you to rename your monster to something more appropriate as Giants =/= leprechauns. Ahem. I was actually thinking I'd start using Haste over Shield, as faster turns = more regen ticks = more stun procs before the enemy moves = less chance of the enemy ever landing a hit on me = more hits I can get in before stun wears off. Edit: My 2H prof is 103.13 atm, and my light armor prof is...96.02 (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) This post has been edited by Koudesu: Sep 7 2011, 21:53

Up till now I was mainly using 1h or dual wield so 2H came a little short. I'll be doing the daily arenas with the mace from now on. Will take a while to catch up I guess.

From my experience as a shade user, you need decent evade to work well with parry/resist. If you are using kevlars, their evade chances tend to be quite low. So you have to decide for yourself: to be a tank, or not. The higher crit chance the safer you are, given that you are macing. This partly explains why shadowdancers are so valuable.

Do crit rates override hit rates? The one problem I have with macing is that I'm starting to have long strings of missed attacks.
And yes, I may just switch back to shade armor if the haste thing works out.

@ roadgray It might not be a bad idea to wait until you get Heartseeker before going 2H ... It help a lot. I would recommend you to stick with your eth rapier and get a high block shield if you want to stay with 1H. Just my 2 cent... @ Koudesu Haste is a standard-issue support spell for every non-bleed and non-1H user. The other thing is to keep burden below 20 ... This is the other reason why eth is awesome. Without my mace's burden, I'd have 23.7 burden in total. Right now I have 38.6, and my action speed is 150.1 with 150 agi. I suppose I'd better start raising it soon.

(IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Yes, heartseeker is great. Sadly I don't have an ethereal mace, but I manage to keep my burden at 19 (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I never thought I would actually need it so I never go and grab some... But if nothing change in the near future, I seriously need to get myself a few shadowdancer piece ... (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) Not in a hurry, though, since for now, I seem to be fine.

Not only has shield become weaker since the patch (probably has to do with the fact that absorption now sucks) but with the increased damage the best way to avoid damage is to kill them quick, which haste helps with. And of course, getting more attacks then then really does this and a higher chance of stunning them from more attacks and that the stun lasts longer relative to your number of actions make it an easy choice.
