I am a melee person.
Another F*cker speaking from experience. Your proficiencies raise a lot faster when they are low compared to your level. When you got any buff on autocast, you can forget about levelin up Supportive. Curative raises annoyingly slow if you use Regen2 to stay alive, but that didn't bother me. Now it's maxed without using RG1 to train some more. When you reach those arenas that has a lot of legendaries in them, that's when you will want to use dualwielding. Just doing those with DW will max that skill up nicely. The best technique at the moment at my opinion is to use an ethereal estoc while fighting non-legendary arenas. For your daily combat. Yup I use ethereal estoc in the lvl 300 arena, because there's 3 legendaries in a round. Before then, dualwield leggies. For mages ... wtf is a mage ? There is one thing you need to train because you don't really use it. That is deprecating proficiency. Best way is to cast Weaken in Cake battle on a mob, use all the mana potions you got and do it again. When you can't raise proficiency by a full 1 by the time you've used all your potions, stop. After you get Spirit Shield, you can forget all about Silence and deprecating proficiency... That is untill the devil himself releases another patch, nerfing spirit shield in some way. You know it's coming.
The best armor used to be priestess + earth-walker. Now Priestess suxxors and earth-walker is completely useless. The master must be reading the tips I write, that's so friggin mean. Right now, there's no right choice between armors. Priestess is the worst when it comes to surviving the longest, but uses least mana. Light and Shade armor are at equal terms. Heavy armor is the best for surviving, but the mana drain makes it impossible to use in long fights. At the moment, I use Shade armor for damage boost in order to clear fights fast. I use Light armor to live a little bit longer, but no damage boost means that fights take longer. One thing most important here.... Damage mitigation in percentage is much more important that simply reducing damage by absorbing it. Shield spell makes a big difference. Experiments show that this is the order of importance of buffs. 1) Shield 2) Haste 3) Shadow Veil
Depending on the equipment you wear, you will either, fight slower, fight faster and attack with more power, live long and run out of mana. My personal favorite is using shade armor with Haste+Shield+Shadow Veil+Spirit Shield. All of them are on autocast. With light armor I can live a bit longer and the fights take longer. The most credits I can make in grindfest goes like this: Equipping heavy armor with heavy mitigation percentage, autocasting Shield+Haste.... Using Regen 1 until I actually take damage, then switch to regen2 to live.
For troublefree operation, try wearing light armor or shade armor with a 2 handed weapon. Not Mace no no no ! Even if your mace is a good ethereal one, it's still the slowest thing after a turtle raping snail. If you choose shade armor (rare stuff), you'll want to select the one that has high percentage mitigation instead of more damage increase.
That's a bit much to take in. You'll be happiest with light armor with high mitigation. Using spells Haste+Shield Third optional spell: Shadow veil. To stay alive Regen2.
