well, it's not that 1H + shade wasn't already reported to work before, and i can also understand that since it's harder to keep 200 OC, then FRD may work better than OFC, but... are you sure shortsword works better than a rapier this time? which weapon did you use? (IMG:[

Yep, 1H/light is definitely a super tanky build.
A shortsword, eh? It works at low difficulty, but at high difficulty, a rapier trumps everything else. You don't need that much accuracy btw, as it's easy to get, and Overwhelming Strikes already helps in that regard.
You're giving up +10% attack and +3% evade there. You're probably better off using the OC for spirit stance and OFC.

Yep, 1h + shade is probably the safest fighting style. 50% block on top of 45% evade results in quite a lot of defense (until you get hit by a Piercing SP attack and take 150 spirit points in damage due to 0 piercing mitigation). Power is attractive to those who feel tanky enough due to level/gear quality and can forego gear defense. Depending on your level, shade might mean you have to pay even less attention to stay alive than with Power - but past a certain level, you barely have to pay attention anyway, and the increased damage output of Power makes it more preferable.
I'm doubtful about FRD. Sure, it makes defense even easier when you can stun everything at the beginning - FRD's probably the best way to clear PF-fest the first time, for instance - but it means significantly less damage output (people pay 6000+ hath for +10% damage tongue.gif) as well as less Spirit Stance. And if you're going to micro FRD, you might as well clear faster with Power and micro Cures instead, I think.
Shortsword instead of rapier? No way. Sure, you might feel tanky enough that you don't need the PA of a rapier to kill monsters quickly before they MP/SP you - which could well be true - but a rapier would certainly be significantly faster even if other weapons are usable.
Well... let me be honest with you guys.
The incident gave me the idea of trying this build all right, but i added some ... "extra advertisement" in the previous post, due to the bitterness that i always feel when i remember that my first legendary drop was a weapon yes... a rapier yes... but a freaking
balance one (IMG:[

Also my bad luck in leveling up equipment always giving me
overpower and swift strike, plus i get that
shocking element all the time hunting me.
I remembered how FRD had been mentioned as something that DW could use, but it required more attention than 1H, and after the accident i tried to combine it with the rest of the build just and only... because... Yeah... No real reason.
I just opted for a pure "treasure my junk" mix.
Obviously more damage is always better. As for the rest (the fixation on counter-attacks and staff), rounds 74 to 79 from the IW run had been a little more challenging (do consider i have low light armor proficiency) so when one of my hits got parried, i found myself missing just a tick of OP for FRD (more evades than blocks), so i took the occasion to make this an extra advertisement for balance weapons rather than slaughter. In short i was telling myself that what i have is a good rapier (and not junk) (IMG:[

That is contradicted of course by mentioning how a shortsword is better, since all what it does is keeping the accuracy high (unlike an axe) but had much better AD than a Rapier. So by constantly hitting all the enemies to stun them, you opt for a more powerful attack, then you build OP, while you leave behind the bleeding effect for the next FRD and so on. Rapier is a single target thing, though on higher difficulty, it's by far true that there is no comparison.
Again it was me telling myself that my legendary shortsword was no junk, even if nobody wanted to buy it in aria's auction (IMG:[

Well... all in all, i'm gonna start using that build little by little now. But before that i have to deal with a HUGE problem... i ... must decide to ... start using the script...
