QUOTE(Superlatanium @ Aug 24 2015, 03:27) Mage is very very difficult before you get to a high level. You'll spend a ton of mana and mana potions
I'm consuming an extra 500-1000 mana potions daily on top of whatever drops for me (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif) Maybe I should have gone for Eco 5 after all.

QUOTE(Superlatanium @ Aug 24 2015, 03:27) If 1h, wind isn't a good idea, because 1h would usually rather take the chance at blocking (or not blocking) than to evade. Fire is OK, but I think Frost minimizes HP damage taken overall. (because Fire won't reduce HP damage taken from SP attacks) But, Fire is also a more common damage type, I think.
This is wrong, wind and ice should be the same. You get hit less often and you block less often.

That's not normal. I suspect he has gone for Archemage + Penetrator/Annihilator and has 0 Eco. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) This post has been edited by tetron: Aug 24 2015, 07:55

Eco3 + 1 frugal piece... 82.1% mana cost modifier It's almost balanced for the arenas. But I'm also clearing a few thousand rounds of Grindfest @ PF (and have junk to show for it).

I'm not sure if this is the place for this, but I'm going to post it anyway: would it be possible to make a real beginner's guide on the wiki? I know that there's the FAQ and the Advice page, but both of them are pretty technical, and as someone who has just started recently I can tell you that they don't really help out with what to do as you start out. Specifically I mean things like where and when you get your first equipment, how long it realistically takes for you to be able to soulbind or raise monsters, what you should do to get experience in early game and other things that are the basics of the basics. It's certainly possible to piece these things together by rifling through all of the wiki pages and trial and error, but I think it might be better to have it spelled out for some people.

@Caedus Buy your first equipment unassigned because the chance of getting an exq+ with matching prefixes and good stats is remote even if you sink a crapload of credits in it and do plenty of rounds.
raise monsters: It's pretty expensive unless you play lots of rounds because you must play loads of rounds in order to afford the crystals and the happy pills (really rare drop) and the chow.
what you should do to get experience in early game: play arena on the highest difficulty you can.
Soulbinding - I think it's 3-5 soul frags a dayish (probably more because I don't keep track) and it takes 25-50 pieces to soulbind. And soulbinding is capped at +100 your current level and should not be used on equips less than exq or equips with bad stats because apparently they're pretty rare.

But what kind of equipment might he need? A mage build for someone that early in the game, or go 1H+Force shield and go for plate or shade or something else? Caedus, what kind of equipment do you have now? Care to post your stats?

It's certainly possible to piece these things together by rifling through all of the wiki pages and trial and error, but I think it might be better to have it spelled out for some people. Before level 300 or so, all you can really do is focus on getting experience. Before that, you likely won't have much funds, nor anything worth soulfusing. You could just ignore monster lab, or only use chaos tokens to unlock slots (but don't raise monsters' PL except as needed for morale). Players of every level are extremely unlikely to ever find anything good that fits with their current playstyle, so you'll likely have to buy stuff for your important gear slots, once you have the funds (and the level to justify it). With where you are now, I'd recommend using whatever armor you've found, probably all leather, along with some sort of 2h weapon, preferably of Slaughter. Then around level 140-160, switch to 1h, because monsters start hitting very hard around that time, and you need the extra defense 1h provides. You should be leveling up very quickly, so there isn't a whole lot of point to buying equipment from other players since it'll degrade to worse than Crude quickly - so just use whatever you happen to find, for now.

Then how many MP pots do you usually need to use in just the Arena (Including the SG ones)? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) With 59.5% mana cost modifier, I need around ~120 MP pots to clear the full Arena in PFUDOR (Including the SG ones).

to be sure we'd need someone to do a high-level arena (DwD? ED?) at high difficulty with both spikes to have a decent pool of datas to compare (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) QUOTE(jacquelope @ Aug 24 2015, 09:44) But what kind of equipment might he need? at his level, i'd go for 2h + full leather of protection. reinforced is better of course, but not really mandatory

I need to get more bindings and shit and try again. If you are willing to use 1h/power it should be simple now, right? Now that items are unlimited, at least. The only thing I've forged above 5 is weapon parry chance, which isn't so important anyway, and PF-fest is easy. Of course the downside is the long time required...
