Speaking as 1H melee, mmax+ (as old wiki) force shield + 25+ times block forging is still the way to survive.
BTW it seems that new force shields have better block stats than before, say, legendary one has P value (of 0.81 wiki)

I did FSM in 420 turns. Even with infusions I only cut it down to 330. I am doing something very wrong.

Yes, I still feel that imperil is very important for a mage. Proficiency doesn't provide similar Mmi reduction.

Yep. Imperil is very strong. The only problem with it long casting. It doesnt work very well on low diff, and on high diff with 5 phase i have defense problem. So it looks much better to use mage only with at least 10m budget. Or better 20-30m. So i returned back to 1h, because its easy, safe, no mana problems and ~200k profit after full hellclear.

Use it in forge for resistance.

Note that it's not x1.25 to current EDB, just +25 to current EDB.
For example, if your EDB is 290% on holy, it would be 315% after using the infusion.
So you can't easily know the difference between before and after, especially you have already high EDB.

New-ish player and I've strictly played as an elemental mage so far so all of my proficiencies are with cloth, staff and magic. With the recent changes, I'm wanting to attempt higher difficulties but in Nightmare or harder, I'll push through until I hit a round of about 7-9 enemies which together deal enough damage to kill me in one round. In Hard, I can last through arenas with mild mana potion use and don't seem to have the same die in one round issues.

I don't think buying new equipment is an option in the new patch because of my low level and my current equipment feels like it's slowly getting more and more out of date(25 levels behind already), but the best drops I'm getting (up to superior so far) still aren't improvements to defense and are worse or barely better in other stats.




So, my question

Is staying an elemental mage an option with higher difficulties and I'm just doing something wrong, or do I have to switch styles until I'm at a higher level?
