btw, pretty sure it's already been answered, but i'm a 1H/DWer with wind strike rapier. what's best between fire spikes (to raise a bit of mitigation against dragonkins and a chance to lower incoming damage) and frost spikes (to go for dragonkins and arthropods weakness, to boost wind damage and to lower mobs speed)?

PABs don't have much of an effect anyway when their exponential growth rate overshadows their proportions. Maybe stat X costs 5 times more than stat Y at some level, but when that difference translates into only +20 out of 300 (for instance), it's almost not even worth thinking about. This effect intensifies the higher your level.

I would disagree here, i never used silence. The only deprecating i used was weaken and imperil. It worked quite fine for me.

For Mages playing SG, MagNet (+100% Counter-Resist, +100% Anti-Evade) is also very good, especially for a full phase build.

i don't think that nec1986's idea is wrong. mage should be able to clear low difficulty rounds fast. But, I'm not sure if 5 cotton build can do so at hell.

When I became a Mage, at first I was playing with a Focus Staff and Full Cotton proficiency Build (Holy element). It was very safe, but also extremely slow. I remember my Magic Score back then being 2k (Don't remember my level)! (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/faint.gif)

Doesn't mean I have the armor to go with it, unfortunately. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten, I just haven't gotten gear yet.

It's more complicated than that since offensive spells take a whole lot longer to cast than Imperil. Imperil takes 0.45 time to cast, T3 takes me ~1.290 time to cast, and T2 takes .952 time to cast. So even if total turns are similar with prof-build, or even a bit less, total action time is likely to be significantly more. (With full prof, T3 time goes down to 1.072, T2 stays about the same, as does T1. Imperil still has advantage)

Because others have reported never seeing any shards on Normal.

My simulations came up with the best strategy (so far that I've determined) which requires 172.5 +-.3 shards on average, though anywhere from 50 to 500 required would not be too surprising. That one took me about 180 shards.

I'm well aware, but the player in question is only level 250 and likely does not have good gear at all - which is why it's not a good idea for him. I don't want him to make the same mistake I made of trying for high difficulty SG arenas before having high level + gear.

Casting Absorb as a spell gives you a chance of absorbing the next non-crit spell, which ranges from 60-90%, scaling with the Better Absorb ability. This means that there's always a chance that a spell can slip by. If you cast Absorb from a scroll, then the chance of it absorbing the next non-crit spell is always 100%.

I'm not sure what you mean by "amount of attack absorbed".

I didnt know it was 100% from scrolls. So that would be another option to get mana in battle.

BTW what spike shield do you guys use? I use the frost one, because of the weaknes for wind what i think helps me to make more damage with my tempestuous rapier, right?

i used to use flame with 1H for passive damage reduction & fire mitigation + wind with shade for increased miss chance, but since my main weapon has wind strike too i guess i'll go with frost for both styles as well...
