Hello experts,

So, I've been going with the flow for some months now, I've switched to 1H Rapier w/ Force Shield + Power of Slaughter Heavy Armor, also I've followed this very common advice of casting Haste first, before other supportive spells, so I have it on auto-cast with the Innate Arcana Hath Perk.

My doubt is that considering the huge amount of Burden and Interference this fighting style has (I have 72.1 & 130.9 respectively) and that none of this equipment but the Rapier can have an Agility PAB.
Does casting Haste is actually helpful to 1H + Heavy? I don't see the point. Shouldn't I use my Innate Arcana slot in something else?
It's something that has bugged me for some time.

Thanks for sharing your insights.

Because of the timescale change, Haste effectively gives you 33% less damage taken and 33% less mana cost, 33% more regen etc. It is the strongest buff by far.

every player should have bonus speed, but all your ATK speed is starting to get eaten away once your BUR > 40

given this:

haste is in absolute a must for everyone, i think.

also, for a heavy player BUR ~ 70 is good - too high will lower your crit chance, but a couple of points is still bearable; and ITR > 130 is quite common, and not even that big of an issue tbh.

it's a hybrid magic/physical mob, so i'd say pretty much everything.

i suggest you to focus on physical crystals for a bit, then switching to magical as well as soon as you'll unlock the SP skill. you can leave AGI a little behind, if you really want

but apart from that, yes, chaos tokens are quite important as well - especially scavenging, brutality and fortitude, but needs confirmation from other monster trainers

Hi, guys. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

So, I'm going for a 1H/Shield build with light armour, and I had a couple questions about my stat spread.

Thus far, I've kept my Str/Dex/Agi/End at my level, and my current goal is to get Wis up to my level as well. After that I plan to pump Str and End equally while keeping everything else (except Int) at my level. Is there anything blatantly wrong with my plan?

There's also the fact that my Int is a big, fat 0. Should I put some points in it, even if I'm not planning to be a mage?

I'm also wondering about proficiencies: How much should I worry about proficiency levels? Is there a guideline for how high they should be at certain character levels?

Thanks for any help, guys. I really appreciate it. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

your level is quite low for that: if you only want to play with a shield go ahead, but if you want to optimize your time then i suggest you to go for leather + 2H - maybe longsword for the first levels, then mace.
start switch to 1H - preferably with heavy power armors - around lv 170

no, not really. maybe END/WIS a little higher than the others, but you can keep DEX/STR/AGI at the same level

INT can wait. start pouncing some points when you'll need more SP points, but many levels have still to pass (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

at your level they will be quite low because your level up speed is way higher than prof raising, it's normal. they will catch up little by little. don't worry about it too much

Nothing wrong your plan. However, there are recommendations to keep Wis and Int about 25-50 points behind major stats for the mana and spirit points increase. IMHO it probably would be easier to just keep Str/Dex/Agi/End balanced while Int and Wis is about 25-50 points behind...

While Int does nothing for melee, some point in it helps to boost your spirit points pool.

You need not worry too much about proficiencies as eventually it will catch up to your level at higher levels (probably around 200ish range)

Thanks for the help guys. That you're willing to spend time on a thread like this is really fantastic.

Looks like I should have thought a bit more before posting, though, 'cause I have a couple more questions. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I realize that this probably changes based on what abilities I plan on using, but where should I spend my mastery points, generally speaking? Also, Is it worth spending one mastery point to be able to buff protect with an elemental spike shield? If so, which spike shield is best?

Thanks again, guys! (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

Your mastery points should be spent as you need them. For example, if you have HP tank and SP tank then use 2 mastery points on the major ability slots to "use" those abilities. If you use Haste and Protection a lot, then start spending those points on the supportive ability slots, etc.

If you have points to spare (you have no ability/supportive slots to unlock), then go ahead and spend it to buff protect. As to which spike shield is the best, it is really up to your preference and your weapon elemental damage.

Personally, I would base it on my weapon elemental damage to make that choice. You can see what elemental resist the spike shield reduces at this page

Did a ninja patch happen in the last month? Today I saw a monster resisting 90% of one of my offensive Elec spells. I don't remember if I've ever seen "90% resisted" before. Max that I can recall was 75%. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Hello, dear experts.

Early I was checking my abilities and got curious.. It says that at level 120 you can "power up" SILENCE or wathever it's called to use abity points on it. But at what level you can use that spell? never see it..

Hope you clear my mind and thanks (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

You need at least 40 proficiency in Deprecating, also took me a while to figure that one out ... (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)
Best way to get there is to go into Crude IW or Grindfest and just spam Weaken until you get there (hint1: slot Faster Weaken; hint2: when you can't cast weaken, defend or cast protection if you are not capped in support proficiency; hint3: if you have a spare staff of focus, equip it, it saves some mana no matter how crappy it is).

Also, you can download the spellspam script here and set the hover command to "weaken;defend" so you can AFK while grinding prof. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
