QUOTE(Superlatanium @ Feb 28 2015, 15:23) *

If you get your proficiency up, 1h + heavy (or even 1h + light) should outperform DW by leaps and bounds, especially now that you're running into high PL monsters.

But if you really really want to DW, your mainhand weapon should be something with high weapon damage (Waki and shortsword both have relatively low ADB) - probably a club so you can stun (almost certainly Ethereal of Slaughter). Offhand should be something with good parry and/or good proc - rapiers have both good parry and PA. Wakis have even better parry and less burden/interference, but no PA. Offhand weapon only contributes half its listed damage to damage done, so suffix should be of Nimble or Balance or something rather than Slaughter.

Still, you'll be in a whole lot of needless pain before you switch to 1h.

So the best choice is to grind my 1h+heavy proficiency now? Anyhow I often get attacked twice when using 1H+heavy and oh boy those magics hit hard (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

the choice is between being masochistic DW player or grind 1H+heavy proficiency eh (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) then I choose to lay down the game for awhile till I managed enough boredom to grind prof (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

thank you anyway

Once you get to 200, Spirit Shield will make things much easier.

Grinding proficiency takes time only - it doesn't require any attention at all. Go into a crude IW on IWBTH, maybe with heavy Plate Protection gear (so you can gain heavy proficiency at the same time), with a defense-oriented weapon (Waki of Nimble?) and no damage bonuses from abilities/title. Use Spellspam/Hoverplay to attack. You'll be in no danger at all, not even from Celestials, and all you have to do is recast Regen every so often, and move the mouse to attack a different monster after 100+ turns. Do this while watching a show or movie in 4/5 of your screen, and your proficiency will rise to near your level in little time.

That said, I do agree that forcing players to grind proficiency just in order to try out a style is a serious game design flaw.

absorb can't proc with crit (sp attack) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Well, that's what Weaken is for. Cheap spell, hits 3 targets in 1 go, no cooldown. Absorb is a brilliant spell (far more brilliant as a scroll, of course).

If a player re-casts or re-scrolls Absorb frequently as well as Weakening magic-SP mobs, that's quite a few turns (and scrolls and maybe mana) down the drain over the course of a battle series. Unless the player is just barely on the edge of being able to play at their difficulty level and needs to play defensively / time consumingly just to survive, it would very likely be better to just attack and kill faster.

Any advice on DW style? I've tried 1H+heavy and got rekt (again). So I decided to stick to DW for foreseeable future (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Currently I'm using shortsword+wakizashi both with slaughter suffix should I switch weapon? For armor I'm using cheap shade set I can found. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I'm having trouble on arena in hell mode (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) and what is the right way to use spirit anyway? should I just get to spirit stance and spam normal attack until my OC empty or just use OC for skills?

thanks in advance (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

as latanium said. but if you really want to play with DW, you may try these combinations:
ethereal club of slaughter + ethereal/hallowed/demonic rapier of balance/nimble
hallowed/demonic club of slaughter + ethereal rapier of balance/nimble
ethereal rapier of slaughter + ethereal/hallowed/demonic wakizashi of nimble

possibly, only one of the weapons should be non-ethereal because of BUR's effect on evade.
considering that you will IW10 both weapons, two ethereals will allow you to have the maximum evade possible, one hallowed a bonus on your cure spell and one demonic an advantage against celestials (still reachable by gaining dark strike with IW10 though)

afaik using scrolls and other powerups doesn't require time, unlike spells. and scrolls of absorption are widely available on bazaar (even though they cost quite a few at the minimum price)

Well, there's play time and battle time...

Anyway, I've noticed the eq comparison script giving me wrong grade some times. eg, the base number matches Smax on the wiki, and the auction seller labels it as Smax too. But my eq comparison script calls it S-1.0

I'm already using 0.6.4.0 of the script, which seems to be the latest. How do I get the values updated? Do I have to edit the script manually with the values from wiki? Or is the script supposed to get the numbers from wiki periodically? Or is there a newer version of the script?

Powerup Gems don't use any time units, but potions, scrolls, and infusions do, so it's possible to take hits during the turns in which you use them. (Actually, I should test the Powerup Gem thing, because that doesn't seem right to me...)

Anyway, I love Absorb; coming from where I'm at, there's really no downside to using it unless you cast it at inopportune times.

Yes, health/mana/spirit gems can be used in 0 time units.

I pretty much only cast absorb when I've got heartseeker/arcane focus and regen already up and proc channeling. It seems to cost more than it absorbs otherwise?

got a quick question, How does HV handles fraction of mp?

for example, my auto-cast upkeep is 1.6 MP/round, does it just round up to 2mp/rd?
or Spells that cost 90MP and I just got 2.95% Mana Conservation, does it round up 87.345MP to 88MP?

Anyway, at my level, in term of score contribution, 1 EDB is equivalent to 8-15 MDB, depending on what set im using, so it's not exactly insiginificant.

Hmm. At my level, 1 EDB = ~10 MDB.
Looks like Level does make a difference. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

QUOTE(treesloth @ Feb 28 2015, 06:11) *

You guys have it all wrong. Prof staff is the BEST staff to have. It allows you to get all Radiant Phase, instead of frugal or charged cottons. I think n125 mentioned that recently as well. BTW I'm selling my prof holy katalox staff. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Phase needs Phazon, where Staff does not. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

"Proficiency Staff + 5 Phase Build" is much more costly to forge than "Destruction/EDB Staff + Phase/Cotton Mix Build". (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/duck.gif)

BTW, I leveled up half an hour ago, but the Forum isn't displaying the latest Level. Is it normal? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Forging is definitely good. But even with my main unforged (mediocre) Elec set, I can clear regular Arenas in PFUDOR/IWBTH. So I never actually bothered to forge my maging firepower much. For example, from the day I hit Lv.310, I was easily able to do IWBTH T&T, thanks to Imperil. Before that, I was barely able to clear BT T&T.
As for Grindfest, Mage is just not optimal, no matter what element you use.
