Before starting arena battles I cast Protection, Regen, Haste, Shadow Veil and then Arcane Focus (I try to get Arcane Focus on channelling) and then whack the enemies out with fire and/or spells.
These are my problems:
- I can't beat Random Encounter mobs in hell difficulty and keep getting murdered. Nightmare seems to be the absolute highest I can go.
- I can beat FSM at normal difficulty by the skin of my teeth
- Beating Longest Journey etc. in Hell difficulty seems nigh impossible. Nightmare seems to be the absolute highest I can go, and I usually do everything at Hard, but recently I might be imagining it/paranoid but the enemies seem to be doing more damage to me in hard then they used to..
I have started to use Spirit Shield which seems to decrease my casualties somewhat. I experimented with Spark of Life.
I'd prefer to stay as a mage as the thought of having regrind proficiency seems terrifying.
Your stats look okay. Maybe raise your AGI to the level of your END.
Boost Pack Rat (max it ASAP), being able to slot more pots is crazy useful for lasting longer in battle.
Boost Adept Learner too, to at least 100. You will reach lvl 310 faster that way.
Your drop trainings are fine for now.
Remove Staff Damage and max SP Tank. Staff Damage is a waste of slot/AP since you'll be using spells most of the time and not using melee attacks. SP Tank is important for Spark of Life and Spirit Shield.
Put some points in Better Spark and use both Spark of Life and Spirit Shield. Pack some Spirit Potions. And when you spark, don't forget that you need more than 1 HP for Spark of Life to work again, so don't recast it right away but heal with Cure or Full-Cure first instead. Always keep Full-Cure as an emergency button in case you spark, because otherwise having both Cure and Full-Cure on cooldown when sparking means death on the following turn.
Put some points in Faster Imperil and use Imperil against tough monsters (or even all). Imperil decreases both the elemental mitigation and the MMI, so it greatly increases magic damage. Use Better Imperil too if you can. It is often recommended to start maging at lvl 310 because you can max Faster Imperil and spam a 3-target, 0-cooldown Imperil on all monster, then blast them away quickly. You can mitigate the need for Imperil by using some prof gear (Fiery/Hallowed Redwood Staff of the Elementalist, Cotton of the Elementalist) (magic prof decreases monster elemental mitigation and spell cost, and increases Counter-Resist,
see here).
Use Shock Spike Shield rather than Flame Shield, because its proc lowers Fire mitigation. More generally, elemental mages should use the spike shield that boosts their element (Flame for cold mages, Frost for wind mages, Storm for elec mages, Shock for fire mages,
see here). Just use 1 or 2 levels of Spike Shield, the elemental mitigation isn't really worth it (the most useful elemental mitigations are Holy (Celestials), Dark (Daimons, Undeads) and Fire (Dragons, various)).
Maybe unslot Archmage, lower Conflagration to 3, and refrain from using the T3, because T3 spells have a long casting time (I'm not too sure about that advice...). Or at the very least, don't use it right after using Cure, or chances are you'll be near death with Cure on cooldown the following turn. Similarly, Arcane Focus has a long casting time.
Weaken is a good and cheap Deprecating Ability if you have spare slots/APs. You may use 1 or 2 levels of Better Spirit Pots too.
You may want to use a Fiery Oak Staff of Focus/Heimdall for the bonus Counter-Resist and the Holy EDB (which boosts the effect of the Cure spell). Personally, I tried such a staff yesterday, and being able to recover from near death to full HP in a single Cure is really great for survivability. You can also use some phase of Heimdall instead for the same effect.
Your gear isn't too bad for your level, I would say. A Fiery Staff would be better though (or Hallowed for the Holy EDB).
At some point, buy the first level of Innate Arcana (
hath perk) for 50 hath, and slot Haste in it.
Use scripts:
http://ehwiki.org/wiki/HentaiVerse_Scripts_%26_ToolsI recommend Mousemelee (Hover over monsters to attack) or SpellSpam (if you are a mage), Show Gems (directly show gems you get without having to open the item menu), NoPopup (skips the "You are victorious" popup), Random Encounter Notification (track the time to the next RE, click on Ready when the cooldown expires), Riddle Limiter (answer more easily to the pony captchas), Equipment Comparison (Q/W/E/R/F/B in an equipment popup for various functions)...
