Well, I like to try out the melee styles sometimes... I guess at this point in the game, I have to either give up on melee or have weaker spells but more variety? Meh, I'll keep pumping END up - can't go wrong with defense+HP!
Too bad we can't have something like on The 4th Coming where you have 3 characters on one account and have to level them separately but get to try out all 3 of combat styles there. Mage, ranged, and melee are the main ones. Everything else is kind of split tree-like from those. Say, a robber is usually an archer on PvP servers. A Big Boss Killer is usually a mage or high-endurance warrior (which can equip the best armors). I was one of those players that tried the weirder stuff like a draining axe (that did less [25%] damage but was fun to gamble in combat with - could die very fast if laggy) build.
There's also a kind of "reset" where you have to go back through the game but you have a major benefit, especially if you do it many times. You keep your items but get to redo the quests and get access to a bunch of new ones. Impractical for this game, though, to have something like that. ;(
The only way multiple characters on one account could work fairly is apply all limits as a group to them or have something where they have the same total XP but separate uses. Meh, too hard to code with the current setup.

QUOTE(hitokiri84 @ Feb 17 2011, 08:56) What's your light armor proficiency?
Really shitty. But I wasn't using battlecaster stuff at the time to test it so unless MDM from Battlecaster stuff somehow works differently than the MDM from a Staff...

Just starting out and I am trying to figure out what the best route is to go in this game. I've been playing for about 2 weeks now. I am level 26 and the fighting has gotten significantly harder each level, I have been pretty much leveling my stats evenly for the moment.
I am currently using a tank type character, but I am wearing all light armor as that seems to sit me right in the middle for burden/resistance. Use a high 12% parry dagger and a 20% block shield.
I was wondering if being a tank/rogue/caster makes more sense in this game or is it just preference. Also what makes more sense to have as my 1h (axe/dagger/rapier...etc) or is it better to use a 2h, or dw, or again is it just a preference and nothing really stands above the other styles.
I pretty much put almost all of my AP into hp tank and exp tank, with the rest in the far left abilities like cure and the extra slots.
Also, one more thing if i may. What is the best way to gain exp, I mostly play on hard difficulty (should I switch to normal?), the arena is good but limited, and grindfest has exp nerfed pretty hardcore?
Thanks for any help on this, basically just looking for general direction, what worked for you, that sorta thing.

You'd probably have a better opinion of Battlecaster if your light armor proficiency was higher. Mine's only at 175 (vs 275 cloth) and the one good BC helm I use is easily more effective than my fox and demon-fiend caps. Even so, it's still more trouble than it's worth to up my proficiency. The second I finish, I know I'll find a cap that's better.

OK, if you're going to be doing shield+blade (1H), then you need a better shield. Some kite shields have 25 base (level 0) block%. You should check out ehwiki.org since it covers a lot of those questions. Also, my shop has some free stuff that is mostly of interest to beginners. DW is very high damage but you'll need tons of potions just to survive in the 5+ turn arenas. 2H is kind of cool but again, it's hard to survive without a shield unless a mage. Luckily, there is parry which helps with defense even without a shield. Decent parrying 1H/DW weapons have a rating of at least 10%. QUOTE Also, one more thing if i may. You'll want to try out the item world with various qualities of equipment. Crude/Flimsy=easiest and thus great for proficiency grinding. Exquisite is the one for high XP gains. With the right item worlds, you'll gain better XP/day than grindfest by far. Even crude equipment gives better XP. Also, try cake/easy/normal/hard in those crude item worlds. It'll give you a chance to tune your equipment choices. Grindfest is 10% of random battles. So yes, it's majorly nerfed. This is to prevent server abuse.

How can I beat the fucking FSM? With the dark resistance set I can only do about 900 holy damage and 50 poison damage to it and it have 820k hp. I don't have enough mp to fight thousand turns.

Spirit-ward set + silence + high bleed, will take a very long time but you will win it eventually. QUOTE(cmdct @ Feb 18 2011, 17:22) What difficulty you're trying to beat him?
Since its his first time anything above normal is just stupid i guess.

QUOTE(hwiki @ Feb 18 2011, 12:08) hello, first time post here. i would like to ask, do any of the following item is worth to level up. average ebony staff of desturction http://hentaiverse.org/pages/showequip.php...;key=534af3011aaverage cotton robe of the thrice-blessed http://hentaiverse.org/pages/showequip.php...;key=8d097dc8a9and i have one more question, if for certain type of damage i have a mitigation of more than 100, does that mean i will be totally safe from that type of damage? thanks Someone else will have to advise you on the staff. I can't get the equipment scaling calculator to work (probably a browser problem). As for the robe, the only thing it's good for is the Holy mitigation (and that is pretty good), and that scales very slowly with level, so I wouldn't bother. If you have half decent Ether Theft, you should be able to fight him with zero mana usage. Or use an axe.

This your problem Sayo?

QUOTE(evilzero @ Feb 18 2011, 18:00) I do it on normal and failed. According to my 45 holy prov I think I should use axe. So which one is better? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Superior Ethereal Prism Axe of SlaughterFine Prism Axe of SlaughterShould I use shield? FSM hits me about 300 and my regen II can only cure 130. Or just use axe and rapier? It depends on your evade+parry+ innate arcana does it make up for the damage he does minus your regen II? Ethereal do 30 damage or less the time i last used it if i remember correctly, so it aint worth it, get a high parry or go for a shield.

No. IE6 was the problem. That's the price I pay for free internet access at the public library...

Poured it into here: [ www.starfleetplatoon.com] http://www.starfleetplatoon.com/~cmal/EquipCalc/average ebony staff of desturction CODE Level: 19 -> 300 Attack Damage Multiplier: 13.55 Magic Damage Multiplier: 53.14 Magic Accuracy Bonus: 19.49 Magic Critical Bonus: 3.14 Burden: 13.16 Elemental Proficiency Bonus: 15.01 Deprecating Proficiency Bonus: 10.7 Fire Damage Bonus: 6.29 Cold Damage Bonus: 10.45 Elec Damage Bonus: 8.37 Wind Damage Bonus: 4.21 INT: 9.35 WIS: 0.92 That's about the theoretical maximum it'll ever reach. 10% cold + 50% overall damage sounds cool but that's really not that good compared to the staves you can afford by then. I hope he fixes it soon. I want a few more monsters but I don't want to waste too many more of my Tokens.

I thought I read somewhere Tenboro said it was an accident the beastmaster training went live, and he intended tokens to be the only way to unlock monster slots. I forget where I read it now, but somehow, I don't think the training is going to come back.

Pretty sure he said it in the release thread. But I can still dream.
