Ok, so this might be a stupid post buuut...

I'm currently playing as a mage, but I'm dying extremely fast and basically after like 15ish~ rounds of Grindfest on the 6x muliplier difficulty I'm already out of mana and dead. I currently have a pretty good staff that gives me a lot of magic damage, has some nice elementalist bouns on it and also provides 22+ to fire.

I was wondering HOW can I survive longer? I've tried haste into shield into regen, then spamming Fiery Blast/the frost spell while refreshing my buffs and I've also tried using protection and simply casting Cure on myself everytime I'm low hp (mind you, I've upgraded all of these things already in the training tab).

Is it just that mages are really squishy? And if they are and not that viable, is it possible for me to still, like, completely reroll even though my Intel and Wis are already 80+?

So what should I do here?

Edit: Also, what's the best build to farm credits with?

Hmm, I'd tell you stay off high difficulty aside from REs and play arenas instead of grindfesting.
Mages are really squishy below Level 250, and they don't get useful until level 310 with the fastest Imperil really.

Also, if your elemental proficiency is below 50 you'll want to use Hoverplay and spam Fiery Blast till you get Inferno, that'll help you a lot in REs which gives you loads of EXP for just one battle.
I've got this script up and running, but it's useless with your cursor occupied by Hoverplay, so I've requested oohmrparis to have them appear below the stamina bar.
Also, what kinda staffs and equips do you have?

From SE Asia, same nationality as kos9494, it's not that hard to become multilingual in my nation cuz you have to learn at least three languages (mother language+national language+international language[=English]) at the get-go there as a native citizen.

Well I did mage a little at low level but I was more into Domino Strike that time. Pass Lv.170, I slowly switched into DW to deal more damage and ended up with 1H+Power.

Mage generally can't survive too long before reaching optimal level (~400 as what most Mage fanatic say), they either kill or die fast. Also, Imperil is your cookie-cutter skill. Without Maxing it (to get that extra target hits and low CD) it's hard to mage efficiently.

My advice is if you want to level fast, do high difficulty challenge such as Battletoad Arena, PFUDOR REs, etc. it's best to switch into 1H, or DW if you can afford some Mag. level equipments. Any other fighting style isn't quite efficient until high level (~350++).

Farming credits? As long as you play a lot + your level is high you can always earn credits fast with any fighting style at low difficulty.

Unless you are aiming for good equipment drops, you would need to do Arenas/REs on PFUDOR difficulty (-easiest style to do that is 1H/DW for ~300 level).

If you have Crystanium perk, Hellfest is a good place for you to farm crystals which many tamers out there are demanding.

Clearing Ring of Blood, the one with 5 tokens as entry tickets (Flying Spaghetti Monster) earns you a 60kc-worth boss trophy namely the Noodly Appendage.

When you can efficiently do Item World, you can try offering IW service. Maxing an Exquisite item can earn you ~300k or even higher when it comes to Mag. grade.

Anyway, focus on your level first. Once you reach Lv. 250 or so you can start earning credits in many ways as well as trying out any fighting styles to your heart's content.

Acolytes would want a bit more (twice, actually) to get to Level 210 to be a full-fledged mage without resorting to doing PFUDOR arenas all day though...

you were right to go with surtr. elementalist doesn't grant you any extra damage, which is the whole point of maging. if you havent already get some phase of surtr too. the free shop over in WTS should be able to help; just make sure you read the rules

I had read up somewhere that I should be going for elementalist gear. Oh well. Are the Random Encounters the ones I get when I'm on the frontpage of the website? If so, is there a way to control them and continuously get them?

As for the free shop, I knew about it but I wasn't sure if some of the items there are worth using since their stats seem to be well.. quite mediocre. My staff seems to be better than magnificent staves there and Idk what to do with the items when I no longer need them.

Is there something I'm missing here?

Meh, all H@H clients and servers are essentially load balancers and there's plenty of them already (over 10k of them), so naturally they'll upload far less than your stipulated speed limit.
As for 14kb/s, that's probably your server connection thingy or someone with a slow Internet connection loaded an image from your server... dunno much more than that.

An option for you, given your lower level, is (and I don't know how many pieces the Free Shop has at the moment) getting a set of Shade armor of the Arcanist... like this: Superior Shade Leggings of the Arcanist.

Obviously, don't mix cloth & light armors... but a set of Shade will provide you with much greater protection and the opportunity to smack things with your staff. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Ok, so I went through the free shop just now, looking for items I may want to request. One thing isn't clear to me though...

Am I allowed to ask for 5 EXQ quality items AND a Magnificent quality item + 2 potion packs OR can I only ask for EITHER 1 magnificent item + 2 pot packs OR 5 EXQ quality items and 2 pot packs?

Edit: Nvm... Again, I was too hasty and didn't read that I can request up to 10 items per week.

So, I've basically request 4 exq phase surtr items that all give me +fire damage as well as give me a bit of agility for a small bit avoidance. I've also request a new staff that's stronger than my current one.

As for my current staff, it's not a bad staff but is it possible to sell it or give it to the free shop in return?

That's a banworthy request, easily. You can only request one Phase item at a time.

Personal advice, as someone who's been almost exclusively a mage since level 42: pick up some decent Cotton of Protection and roll with that for the next 30 or so levels, then switch entirely to Surtr stuff at that point. The extra damage at your level doesn't increase your kill speed enough in comparison with the somewhat increased survivability of Protection Cotton.

as i understand it your whole request is invalid. except the Potion packs

5.3 Superior/Exquisite Limits:
One item from the following categories:
- Power Armor
- Phase Armor
- Shade Armor
- Shielding Plate Armor

and Five items from the following categories:
- Cotton/Gossamer Armor
- Leather Armor
- Plate Armor (excluding Shielding Plate)

you've asked 5 items from the first category & 0 items in the 2nd category. though, imo, unless you really want to, don't mage when you're lvl250>. i want to say lv400 but what do i know.

as i understand it, mages can get very good later on. especially when you've the stats (ie High lvl) & equip (ie expensive gear + forging which is even more expensive). also, the Ability Points to Max out every ability.

though, for now, you can start with 2H+Leather which you can get it ALL in 1 go from the FreeShop.

You'll probably get banned and will piss off piyin because you're requesting FIVE phase items when the limit is one. You put the 5 phase requests under the "Cotton, Leather or Plate" category when it falls under "Shade, Phase, Power or Shielding Plate"
