Elem maging does sound easier (or faster) because of the lesser MP costs but I don't really have any MP problems while doing it. The Mana gems + Riddlemasters + the occasional Ether Tap is enough. I usually end up with 2-4 Mana pots by the end of Hellfest.

If you have the time, then I'd say max your main element + all the others. Grind them all, even Staff and Deprecating prof.

Also, I don't recall Elemental Proficiency gives much of any benefits after the "darkmage-nerfing" patch really.

Hmm... Actually, I just whack them when I know they'll die in 1 hit, CM or not, just to save a bit of MP.
Most of them. I use a script to highlight/color-code the annoying ones so I can cast Imperil without losing too much focus on the show/movie I'm watching.

Must've been a dream to be a holy mage at level 450 with perhaps forged legendary phase armaments... did you use Spellspam for that?
Also, is it true that a Level 450 mage with leg-grade armaments can lolpwn everything?

Dunno about you but I've met the notorious "In Memory of Dark Mages" regularly at Hell difficulty now, at least one of them every 10-20 rounds whenever I play at Hell difficulty or higher, in fact.

As for calculations itself, well, according to the info, it's:
((Player's current level + Monster PL adjustment) ^ 1.27) - 247
At PFUDOR difficulty, you'll be regularly meeting monsters that you'll be meeting regularly 125 levels higher than what you'll encounter at Normal difficulty.
((143 + 125) ^ 1.27) - 247 = 965
((278 + 125) ^ 1.27) - 247 = 1788

The weaknesses script I got no clue what that one is.

That one's the HVFS Battling script written by freakerup iirc. Quite useful for a mage (if only elemental explosions is nowhere as powerful as it used to be now), except that you can't open the equip popup for some reason, so you'll need to write exclude function to limit the script to battles.

Haven't tried Elemental maging with Hellfest yet, but I can easily clear Hellfest with Holy.

Most of the mage in my level range cannot one-shot 50%+ thing in Hell, but can be one-shoted by mobs. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
The longer casting time of holy is a pain.

I know it is mostly the equipment problem. However, not that many players (excluding bots (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ) here are rich enough to forge, and have worth forging set of phase armor.

1. Ah, agreed. Normal mobs are more horrible on PFUDOR...
I suggest get better shield with forging (total 55%+ block) so that you can equip 5 power slaughters to have more AD, but it needs more level I guess (360+, probably 380+).
Or use Weaken, but it may make much troublesome.
2. I'm lazy, too. Sometimes I don't use any skill or OFC, watching animation and just up and down the mouse. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

One trick to make it faster is switching between the SG instead of outright killing them one by one, you'd have more OC to spam 1h skills as soon as they're off cooldown. I notice that your speed is significantly lower when you're killing the last SG of each rounds (since your OC gain pretty much drops down to 10OC/turn).

I'll try that next time, sounds promising.
During the 1 & 2SG rounds it takes agonizingly longer because i'm focusing as much as possible to cut down on MP potions, but seeing that i still had some left over at the end i'll probably move the potion chugging further forward.

It's good for mages to similarly switch between schoolgirls if they're spread out enough that one is out of reach of T1 and/or T2 spells. Get one schoolgirl down to 10-20% HP and then switch to the other. All of your spells will be concentrated on the new schoolgirl while the other one will be finished off by T3s.
