Looking at the wiki, it doesn't seem that strength and dex seem to do anything for mages, except give me more spirit, which I'm not too hot about given the physical damage bonus doesn't matter to me.

Are there any other benefits to those stats, or should I just adjust my stats to 1/1/../../../.. ? Is there an optimal stat allocation for mages?

Strength and Dexterity contribute to physical damage and physical crit chance, and Dexterity alone contributes to attack accuracy. These are useful when you want to proc Ether Tap by killing a monster that has Coalesced Mana with your staff. Dexterity also contributes to parry chance, which is another layer of avoidance that helps keep you alive.

Definitely let them lag behind your other attributes, but they aren't devoid of benefits for a mage so don't ignore them completely.

edit: got a quick question about forging, does it stack? it said it'll increase 1% of its base, so does Physical damage stack with butcher & itself? ie 10lvs in Physical Damage means it's compounded on itself 10 times.

There is a unknown formula that is logarithmic (apparently). The first level adds ~2.7% and it decreases for each additional point you add. The 1% description is a relic of the past.

None-ADB/MDB
0.2*ln(0.1*forge_count+1)

ADB/MDB
0.28*ln(0.1*forge_count+1)

And physical damage from forging and the damage from butcher stack.

2H for some reason is much rarer than other weapons. I usually get 10 1H, 3 staffs before i even see a 2H drop. It really makes little sense, considering how unpopular the style is right now

PS: I'm thinking about selling this Exquisite Ethereal Mace of Slaughter. PM me if you're interested (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well... you'd better find it on some auctions.

Actually found that one a couple days ago while reading up on drops:

Hmm, I don't see many players selling monster crystals.

I know you can get some from the item shop in game, but I only see a few of the ones I need, do I just have to wait till I see the ones I need or is there a better way to get monster crystals?

As a general rule, how do you get the most XP fastest at low levels? Should I be trying to raise difficulty as high as I can, or grinding away mindlessly on Normal? Are Arenas always better than Grindfest? Is it ever worth trying the item worlds for XP?

place the bid you like (usually they're at the minimum, so with 10c you're good to go) and the desired amount. note that the bid is actually what you'll spend for EACH crystal, not the global cost!

1) Random Encounters at the maximum difficulty you can afford without dying, without doubt.
2) arenas are good for their drops, but try not to do them at normal level, as far as possbile.
3) i won't consider IW at your level yet, be patient for other 50 or so (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

most people in WTS sell them in packs of 1000 crystal of each type (ie 12,000 crystals total per pack) for 105-110k credits. you can also farm them yourself which i honestly don't recommend. your level is too low to clear hellfest & you'll end up getting only a couple thousand crystals for a few hours work & 1/4 credits & shittier drops. you might as well do loads of Arena on high difficulty to buy crystal packs.

though, you might want to just spend that money on buying better equipment/training.

imo, general rule, keep your stamina above 80 to get that double exp. Do Random Encounters @ the highest possible difficulty (with x7 bonus?). then also, do Arenas on the highest possible difficulty.

if you still hv time you can do some hellfest/BTfest, but i'd rather have more stamina to get that double exp.

Well shoot, I just figured I'd raise the monsters PL just enough to get it to look for items, I didn't realize it would be so expensive.

What level should I even bother raising a monster, and is there a chart that shows the number of crystals needed per level?

You mean PL 50? Thats really not expensive. And at your level you should make more monsters insteed of making one monster in your eyes superstrong.

Really? I've been reading it's way better to focus on having a single monster that I can afford to raise and get to a high level rather than a bunch of sub-par ones.

And is there a chart available that shows how many crystals you need per level?

And how will you do this a your level? I mean, after my experience even PL 605 isnt enough to make the investment worth. And think about this. Even a PL 50 Monster have the Chance to get something like Binding of Slaughter or crystallized phazon both worth aroung 200k. It is an easy calculation. More monster equal higher chance to get something worthwhile.

And i dont know if there is a chart anywhere. But a can say, to get an primar attribute from level 12 to level 13 you need 10k crystalls. Elemental mitigation from level 22 to 23 1758 crystalls. I mean, if you say to bring a monster to PL 50 is expensive, how the hell will you get a monster to a PL that is the investment relly worth it? I think this would be around PL 750.

Have found in the wiki this formula, maybe this will help you.

It actually depends on what you're looking for. Having one of high PL can give you more (quality?) gifts on a daily basis starting PL 600-700 and having a bunch of monsters of lower PL can prove useful for a little buff in EXP gain and loot chances:
QUOTE(EH Wiki)
Monsters give an additional EXP bonus of (1 + PL / 200).
Monsters give additional loot drop chance as ((PL - 500) / 50), capped at 15%.

So I guess what I'll do is focus on one up to a certain point, like lvl 50-100 or so, and use tokens to unlock more monsters every now and then, but I'll still focus on building up my main monster with scavenger upgrade and whatnot.

at lv 200 you'll unlock the second skill (you can read 'more powerful attack') and morale drain is reduced, so you'll need a bit less upgrades/pills to keep it happy
