QUOTE(Owyn @ Feb 16 2014, 14:24) just wanted to know what elemental monster would be more deadly in % (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) i'm wondering what is the total distribution of monsters instead, ie how many elementals, how many zombies ecc This post has been edited by Scremaz: Feb 16 2014, 15:39

if the gain in elemental mitigation is low you could also think about what effect you would like to give to the target, without limiting to elementals: just saying, dragonkins are very weak against cold, so if you have an arctic weapon i think you should pick a fire spike shield to stress this weakness (reducing the damage given by a dragonkin on you by 10% meanwhile)... the matter in this case is to know how the monsters are shared among the various classes...

I know about giants and celestials, just wanted to make one or two elementals, cuz I don't have monsters above 250 lvl anyway atm, so there is no use for INT stat for now, except Elementls, have just one cold elemental now and thought is there could be a better one

yeh, i've seen that... currently i'm using it modestly because i've lv3 of SP tank and don't want to train ability boost very much, but even without any other ability slotted except for HP and MP tanks i was able to clear a crude IW at IWTBH or PF without running out of SP or MP, even with an almost-all warding power set... QUOTE(Scremaz @ Feb 16 2014, 19:24) keeping in mind that the damage from spike shield is very low, i think as a melee you should choose depending on the element on your weapon to take advantage of the subsequent strikes: for example, if you have a fiery/fire strike weapon, you know that fire resistance is lowered by storm spike shield that processed in the previous turn, so you could choose that. don't know how to choose if you have two elements though, probably you go only with the main hand...
As far as melee goes, I've only ever considered Flame for heavy and Storm for light, assuming Ethereal weapons of course. Maybe Frost is better than Storm for light though since the speed reduction affects all actions and doesn't rely on luck to be useful like the miss chance increase.

I'm using flame currently, -dmg seems nice cuz i spam every monster with weaken on the start of the RE and my strike is cold, was using storm for +evade before with elec strike, haven't maxed armor prof yet, so Frost might be bad cuz of that =\ else it seems also nice

If you mostly mage then VV is really good as it provides you with a multiplicative bonus, greatly reducing your spirit consumption. If you mostly melee and have to use focus then IA4 is much better as you will save a lot of time not having to use focus (and not being able to use more skills/spirit stance). Other good ones are Thinking Cap (only if you have more than level ~210 Adept Learner and want to level fast) and Crystarium I (especially if you play grindfest, also generally good if you raise monsters).

QUOTE(hentai_fusion @ Feb 16 2014, 20:35) my only concern with VV is that being a mage, my hp is pretty low so 25% of low hp is still low hp.
QUOTE(Colman @ Feb 16 2014, 20:41) 25% more hp means 25% less sp is used by spirit shield.

I would get VV first. Then IA4. As mage. You need SS as mage, so you don't spark so often at high diffs, saving spirit. Also the high health reduces spirit loss when you get throttled, as Colman/m118w11 said. I got VV as a mistake, thinking I got Thinkingcap, but it was the best mistake ever. I went from 14500 to 17500, and it made a huge difference. It's also only 250hath. Once you can then play at high diffs, you can get better drops, which helps you get that 250more hath for IA4. Not many people want Leg Hallowed Oak of Focus, so you can wait for that. This post has been edited by treesloth16: Feb 16 2014, 21:33
