I was told to post this here as I had asked in a new thread so here goes.
I read the wiki and the only real thing I found on starting out is determining play style and keeping stats near the same to begin with.
My play style has always been swords usually 1 handed with a shield so would starting stats be good of.
Str 11
Dex 11
Agi 11
End 10
Int 10
Wis 9
Yet give me the opportunity to grow in other areas as I level? Would this be a good starting template or will I be gimping myself too much in primary stats? I did not see anything that listed like a primary stat for the type of play style.
BTW what starting advice to get started as I understand I am going to be starting with no weapons. What type of abilities and that should I be looking at as a newbie? BTW what title do you recommend for someone new to the game? Newbie or Level Default? Would I be starting to gimp myself to much using newbie as default? Thanks for any starting tips you can give me as the Wiki really didn't cover getting started very well.
Stat importance for melee users is STR >= END > DEX > AGI > WIS >> INT, if I recall. Get all the buffs you can afford (Protection, Haste, Cure, maybe Shadow Veil). You're really low level, so you probably won't be able to use many spells though.
Also, get the abilities that boost the equipments you use. And try to use only one type of armor (either all light armor or all heavy armor since you use melee) as those abilities don't boost you if you don't. And remember to slot the abilities you unlock in your mastery slots.
1H is kinda slow and not so effective at your level, I would recommend either 2H (mace or estoc of slaughter, works great against large groups of monsters) or DW (club of slaughter in main hand and rapier of balance/nimble in offhand, the most effective way to kill single targets).
If you really want to play 1H, try using a rapier of slaughter (armor piercing!) and a shield with the highest block possible (to raise your number of counters). It works even better with a power armor of slaughter set.
