I'd say leather just because leather is made as the defensive option for light. Shadowdancer is a mix of offensive and defensive, and should still be taken if you want to increase your clear speed.
Apply featherweights for even more survivability.

I would say it is arguable since shade provides faster kills, thus less chances of sp/mp skills that hurt. It may also depend on what kind of style of melee you're using.

can you still block monster attacks/skills if you are DW and one of the gears actually have block chance, without the shield?

Yes, a shield is just the gear that gives the most value to block. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Even without armors and shield, you still have a block chance against monster's attack if you have 1H Block ability and use 1H weapon.

QUOTE(Oversoul @ Oct 18 2013, 05:00) Shade Shadowdancer vs Leather Protection, which one will have a easier time with 50+ rounds Arena on Phudor?
When your HP tank is small, definitely leather. Getting hit in HV is a given, Leather will mitigate the hit much more so than Shade. A protection Leather Breastplate has PMI value of 12% and higher, a typical Shade's PMI hovers around 6%, only half the protection of the Leather.

I think shade shadowdancer is better, since it have both high evade and attack damage bonus. However, if you have limited budget, you should go for leather protection, as a set of leg leather protection is better than a set of exq shade shadowdancer.

You'll probably get a better answer if you specify what weapon you use. I noticed I used less mana on cure with Shade + Mace(25% chance of 4 turns stun on mine) than with Shade + DW, Shade + Niten, Shade + Estoc (enemies beat the crap out of you the most on Shade + Estoc)

true dat shade + Estoc is the riskiest play possible in melee form (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Thanks for the answers. Currently using Dw, Club/Rapier. The trade off is about 400AD/10% crit/10% eva for 15% mit

The images on your computer don't actually have an URL. You usually have to upload them to a pic hosting site then give that link to others.
Alternatively, you can just attach the photo to your post.
Save up for a shade set (not necessarily full shadowdancer) I heard that it fits DW better in the future.

Just go into paint or any other image editor and resize the image by dragging the corners toward the middle. Or use something like [ www.picresize.com] http://www.picresize.com/

QUOTE(cruelsion @ Oct 18 2013, 08:30) shade + Estoc is the riskiest play possible in melee form (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) The riskiest but still the fastest for light armor melee. Regardless, playing on PFUDOR with estoc and full shade is impossible without a forged high level set. Even with mine it's kinda "iffy". IWBTH is cake though.

I know you are level 206 but you still should be using full shade if you are using club/rapier. At most use a mix, one or two pieces of leather if you are having defensive problems.

Would you mind posting your set, so we all could have a reference of some sort :3
Questiona: For Niten, what is the optimal way to play? Skyward > normal attack / Skyward > Spirit stance > attack / Spirit > whack away
And waki of swiftness/slaughter/balance/nimble?
Also does the DOT % on the waki matter?
