QUOTE(erwtsnert @ Oct 6 2013, 13:23) I can manage 20 mins on BT, soon and I'll be able to do a 20min IWBTH run (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) It's just honestly about levels and gear though, once you get a set of mag+ gear and most abilities maxed out you'll just whiff through them. I need to pick up a katana + waki. What do you do for Niten? Start each round w/ Skyward Sword? or just anytime build up OC, Stance then skyward sword? Or does stance not matter for skill. Even w/ good estoc can't kill em fast enough in later rounds to ignore the need for bulking up PMI. In general, if paying attention, it's best to do it on the highest difficulty you can handle comfortably (emphasis on comfortably). It's most likely that it'll be faster in terms of pxp vs time spent (if somewhat marginally in some cases). That said i often screw around and do other stuff so doing it on a diff i can ignore stuff half of the time is preferred. This post has been edited by etothex: Oct 6 2013, 23:37

I usually Skyward Sword at the start and kill the ones I hit, later one when 8-10 of them start spawning your OC bar will fill up every now and then. I usually Spirit Stance + Skyward Sword if that happens, kill the ones affected, and turn off Spirit Stance once they're dead. Stance does matter for Skyward Sword damage, but it's mainly to do double damage against the PA'd enemies afterwards.
I do feather my equipment for IW though, still have to do runs on Nintendo if not feathering.

I'm currently playing in Redwood Mage (Fire) style. Which Spike Shield Should I Use?

Spike shield procs will explode when a certain type of spell, which the proc lowered the resistance of, hits. Freezing limbs (Frost Spike Shield) will explode when a fire spell hits it. I'd suggest going for Frost Spike Shield unless you really want another proc for some reason.

QUOTE(hujan86 @ Oct 5 2013, 23:12) As opposed to activate SS whenever the OC bar is full and start hacking every mob with normal attack? I've been doing it wrong all this time.
It's not wrong to play DW the way you describe. It's what I do most of the time now. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But you may find that using skills, and in particular, FB, gives you better results at your level/difficulty. Esp with 6+ mobs where you could really benefit from a multi-mob strike. Not saying it's guaranteed better...but it's worth learning how to use them, and what usage patterns are good for you. To start using them, maybe try using brute force SS method until you have 4+ mob in your rounds? Then, max OC, use 1st 2 skills on one mob and FB the rest. Finish them off if necessary, and start building OC again. You do not have to get to max OC before using the skills....175 is enough to use them 3 turns in a row...it puts you at 0 OC though. The challenge becomes surfing the FB wave....making sure you always use FB on a full set of enemies, and trying to build OC again to FB levels before the next mob becomes unruly enough to kill you If you do learn how to use DW skills efficiently, it is on average the best way to play Schoolgirl areas too. DW is perfectly suited to them...small number of mobs can be "quickly" killed, even with one-at-a-time DW, and then use the DW skills on the leftover schoolgirl(s). QUOTE(clarkiest @ Oct 6 2013, 05:57) Any advice on finishing marathon quicker?
As above...use a DW set. Add holy/dark strike if needed, they hate that.

I haven't tested things out too much, but I think using an Orbital Cannon when there's a lot of enemies is more efficient than FB. At the very least, the Cannon allows me to do PFUDOR TT&T with my DW/Light in around 700 turns.

Still want to know this, is the Cannon any good? Can the Cannon one-shot waves? If so, does it do so often or just occasionally? Still stuck between selling or collecting my ponies (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Still stuck between selling or collecting my ponies (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) My base Atk ain't high, but my Cannon + SS usually kill every normal mob on PFUDOR, though some very high PL, high defense/HP type mobs like Giant may still survive a non-crit hit. At the cost of about a million C, I think it's worth the price— especially for 1-Hander I would say...

How, exactly, do you get ponies? I've only ever gotten one since their debut and she got sold.

Rare drop. Much rarer than Precursors; my HVStat says that I've gotten 1 Pony every 50 or so Precursors.

QUOTE(erwtsnert @ Oct 4 2013, 23:06) Almost all data in the equipment ranges section is still old, but the new katana are making the old ones obsolete. Not only is the damage higher, the PAB rolls and accuracy are also better. It might take awhile before good "new" katanas will pop up though.
TenB states "- Katanas now have slightly higher +damage [30,50] and +attack accuracy [15, 35], lower +burden [40,20], and higher +DEX [12,25] and +AGI [4,10]. ". How does a slightly higher everything make the old Katana obsolete? I read this to mean that the highest ranked older Katana will be eclipsed by the new version but wouldn't the vast majority of the Exquisite and Magnificent Katana, new or old would be used and abused by most HV players? Does the ranges presented in the above statement show vast improvements over the old to warrant the use of the word 'obsolete'?
