Which one would be better if the magic proficiency has come close to level?
A. Cast a spell that costs 50 mana twice B. Cast a spell that costs 100 mana once

It's probably situational, but personally I would choose B for the reason that every turn you use casting a spell is a turn that you aren't attacking (assuming supportive/deprecating/etc vice a damage spell).
If you're casting damage spells, probably B still because channeling chances will be higher (example: 1 shot at 50% vs 2 shots with 25% chance), your chances of inflicting your elemental proc such as searing skin, blunted attack, or breached defense, is also higher (assuming T2 vs 2x T1 spells).
So, aside from overkill scenario where you could potentially crit on the 50 mana one and kill the monster and therefore essentially waste the other 50 mana, I'd say B. A will give you higher chances to crit, so if it's close, you could consider that... if your crit chance is high enough.
Edit: sorry just saw the proficiency aspect of your question... and I don't have an answer for that part. The rest of my answer would still apply for the overall choice, however.

It makes perfect sense to me, except the specifics of whether he means for gaining proficiency (doubt it) or for dealing damage and being efficient. I just don't have the experience with being a mage to answer that part.

I'm completely new here and have almost no clue how to get started.
My main problem at the moment is making money to buy some decent equipment. I've been trying the Grindfest but that only seems to yield exp and a very small amount of credits.
I've also tried the arena but it seems to have a fairly long cooldown and even then it is quite diffcult without the gear and supplies to survive.
So my question would be are there any beginners guides I could look up?

When the number of debuffs on the monster is more than 6, the rest debuffs are not displayed... Is there any way to see the rest debuffs, including the script?

http://ehwiki.org/wiki/adviceSomethings might be out of date since it is always updating and the wiki doesn't always keep up. This post has been edited by SPoison: Sep 28 2013, 07:32

Go to the WTS sub-forum and look for shops that give out free equipment to new players. wolfgirl has one and there might be a few others as well.

I have finally managed to clear the Eternal Darkness in IWBTH - on the fourth attempt. To celebrate the occasion I promptly salvaged the Arena clearance bonus but alas, it only had a mid-grade leather in it. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

QUOTE(xcaliber9999 @ Sep 28 2013, 13:02) I am in a big trouble aren't I ? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Shouldn't be. By not playing other style, you save enormous credit on equipment and training. You don't need to traverse wts for equipments other than your main style. You can just sell drops that you will never use. You don't need to train a whole bunch of ability ponts to support various play styles. But you've already knew this anyway; I'm a newb compared to you. This post has been edited by clarkiest: Sep 28 2013, 13:43
