I also have a question...what's the right way for level 300+ users play with using an Estoc?
I come from a light armor/Mace/DW/1H background, and am trying to figure out for the first time how to use Estoc properly. I have full 2H proficiency..a plate set with >72 PMI (and power set with >65 PMI to try substituting pieces)...SoL, Haste and Protection on IA...and Regen, Heartseeker and Shadow Veil on standby. Spirit Shield too. But there's just so much fiddling with spells and health, and trying to decide between using SpiritStance or the skill chain...am I missing something or does using an Estoc just always require a lot of paying attention to what's going on to your health?!
If any estoc users just simply explain how they get through IWBTH Arenas, I'll probably learn something...use of OC, patterns for fighting, whatever. It's much appreciated if you do!
not even a 300+ strategy; it applies to any level. Basically spirit stance as much as possible. SoL on heavy is a bad idea. Use Spirit Shield instead. If you are needing SoL in the first 80% of an arena, you need to increase your stats/gear/pmi/whatever first. Basically there are 2 ways to run it, (actually a 3rd way exists, which is use scrolls, but i find that troublesome, and generally only bother in IWs)
1. have enough PMI+avoid (think 74 is enough, but if your acc sucks maybe not) so that any round of 9 monsters cannot kill you when you are unstanced a full round. If this is the case then's it's easy: get your OC to 250. Turn on spirit stance. Go til you're out of OC, kill stuff to regain your 250 OC, rinse and repeat.
2. is if you don't have enough PMI+avoid to consistently survive 9 mobs. Use method 1 for any smaller # of mobs you can handle w/o caution. When you hit a # of mobs/round that seems to be getting you too often into the red, or you think you can't manage with just Spirit shield (need SoL tool) you stop just straight Stancing through. On the last mob of a round, before the kill shot, activate stance, go into the next round, kill as many as you need to not worry about death, (you can throw a weaken too, but i wouldn't do this unless you're near the end), and then turn off stance, and gain OC on the remaining mobs til the just before the last hit, where you reactivate OC. There should be a set number of mobs which you won't ever have trouble with, so you just need to kill a few as quickly as possible til you get to that safe number.
To summarize Strategy 2 again, which most of us poor low levels who don't have 76% pmi and 6000 damage (IMG:[
invalid]
style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) have to use, stance through everything til you reach a point where your unstanced self starts taking too much damage, and then conserve OC for the beginning of the next round, so that you can stance and whittle the dangerous number of mobs down to a safer number.
For instance i run anywhere from 66 to 72 pmi on iwbth arena. I change it a lot, sorry. I got IA3: spirit shield / haste / protect. With 68% pmi (i wear a piece of shield for 7% block, and crush mit differences for dealing with giants differs so find your own #s) i basically run straight through any round of 4 mobs w/o worrying about dying. 5 sometimes, but always by 6 mobs/round i add shadow veil. Stance through everything til 8/9 mobs becomes troublesome, then start conserving OC for beginnings of rounds. So start stance, go to next round of 9 mobs, kill at least 4 or 5 mobs (so there are only 4 or 5 mobs left), turn off stance, finish off the rest, but reactivate stance before going to next round.
lastly i've said it before, for myself, i've always had better results prioritizing +acc over +attack, but if you are using void shards, that's a moot point.
Avoid relying on weaken (talking non marathons); it slows down play and drains your mana. You can of course use it when it's strategic (3 effing giants), loss some of your buffs due to inattention, or whatever else happens, but on a per round basis tis a bad idea. I do also use on the 1st round (4+ mobs), to build up OC for regen/ heartseeker.
If going w/ scrolls, go with method 1, but when you take too much damage unstanced while trying to build OC, just pop a protection scroll. it will easily last you til you get full OC to start up stance again. Sometimes I pop a scroll of shadows when I am ustanced, or have too little OC, so that i don't burn mana. I hate casting w/o stance on, so that avoids having to turn it on and off.
oh and skills are unneeded (except for bosses) unless you are afraid you didn't bring enough Spirit pots and need to conserve SP.
