so i've been having problems with monsters constantly resisting my spells. which led me to wondering.... how exactly does counter resist work?

where in the to-hit formula does it apply?

is it monster_resist% - counter-resist%

I was thinking about putting some AP in confusion, but its usability depends on mana cost (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) .

As you can see I skipped more useless(for a mage ofc) skills like Heartseeker or Nerf (I have already X-Nerf).

I don't use Silence. I have really bad experience with that spell at my early stages of maging.

Hit formula: Do you miss or not? Are you evaded or not? If you are evaded, is your counter-evade high enough to counter it? Are you resisted or not? If you are resisted, can your counter-resist roll overcome that?

Players usually have 100% chance to hit, so first is pretty much always yes. Are you evaded depends on monster and on accuracy. Monsters get up to 10% evade with chaos tokens and few % evade if they have high natural AGI. This % of evade is then reduced by % of your accuracy over 100 by that %, ex 150% accuracy grants 50% anti-evade which reduces evade chance from 10% to 5%.

So 10% anti-resist doesn't make you hit 10% more often but ignore 10% of resists.

@HNTI: Confusion is cute in theory, but mages/2h melees break it by their AoE nature, it is too short and expensive to use and monster can still hit you. On the other hand you can make Eilas kill each other. More importantly, Holy/dark but fire over wind? Konata is 'weak' to latter fyi.

Fire is something I keep for monsters like Manbearpig. Konata dies quick enough to not bother too much to respec. I've managed to kill FSM on BT with my Holy set with these talents, so Konata is probably not going to be a much problem ( had Manbearpig in the group on IWBTH a few days ago during my hourly battle and he died rather smoothly).
Maybe I'll start clearing these bosses on the list on IWBTH difficulty, but on the other side, I'm short on money and tokens means = money obtained for sold trophies.

If they evade you a lot, aim for that 200accuracy after aether buff.

If they "resist" you a lot, nothing you can really do about it in practical sense. You can spam magnet on them but that's not very wise. Welcome to the higher level playing. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (although the resist chance at your range is much lower than at higher level ranges)

so if im understanding this correctly...
if a monster has 50% resist and I have 10% counter resist

resist chance would be would it be 50% - (50% * 10%) = 45%??


I have no evasion problems, but 9 out of 10 AOE spells end with at least 1 resist... even on normal...

1. When I cast Weaken, most of the time the moster's HP seems to dwindle down faster than usual when I hit it. Is that by design or just coincidence?

Quick question.

I just pushed Fair Dragon Hide Helmet of Warding into level 2 strictly using upgrades (yes, I'm that bored). So I hit it up with an amnesia shard, reset it to level 1 and it still has fireproof.

Did I break something?

Well, before, only magical monsters can kick my ass in full plate.

Now, everyone can kick my ass, so I just have to kill them faster, and spam cure like a madman.

Elemental resist is better than mmi because I won't have to change out my power parts to get elemental resist.

If I correctly understood TenB words', it should be 80% of the exp you gained in forging it.

@xmagus: Those are physical elemental attacks. Not magical attacks - even if it says it casts on them it still uses physical damage rolls.

Being elemental doesn't make those attacks magical. Easy enough to put 1 set of plate of protection, other set of something that defends best against magic, and compare damages in random low-quality equip; just flee repeatedly.
