What, that's it? All Snowflake can give me was... a superior shortsword of slaughter, in exchange for the Sapling...? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif)

Add: I thought monsters only start using SP after reaching Level 150? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

In the IA upkeep formula
QUOTE
pkeep = casting_MP_cost * Speed of action taken in the last turn / duration

does the casting_MP_cost include interference's penalty? And if I has haste on, would the Speed of action taken in the last turn be 1.5 ?

I think it includes interference, yes.

If you had haste on, speed of action should be closer to .667 (50% increase in speed means that each action takes 2/3rd time to complete per tick).

@hujan86: I think TenB rejiggered the number of levels the difficulty factor adds to your effective player level when calculating which enemies you can face in one of the intermediate 0.73.x patches.

Custom monsters gain their 3rd skill at PL 400, and it depends on your difficulty settings.

Yes, interference penalty is applied.
The speed of action depends on the action performed.

No, the formula's …
If Evade is 20%, Shadow Veil adds 16%. If Evade is 40%, Shadow Veil adds 12%.
It makes you evade 20% of attacks that would otherwise land. Implying that 20% parry is superior when you have higher evade isn't right.

Yep.

Basically evade is reducing 20% incoming damage, simple as that.

Not quite correct for spirit shield, for which comparing SV and Protection benefit can vary so it can be very well reduction of 20% SP drain and more or less with Protection depending on the state of regular attacks.

No, it isn't.

Oh, overall, after you've played about a billion rounds, sure. But in any given battle series, on any given day? Evade can easily reduce 50%-75% of your damage, or it might reduce 5%-7%. There's just no way to tell.

Why? Because of that screwy Random Number God. You could evade (as I have) something like Magic the Gandhi's Electric Shock, which hits me for 13k damage (damned near 100% HP), or you could evade Setebos' normal hit, which lands for less than 10% that.

And given how screwy the RNG really is, you could evade all the piddling attacks while the Big SPecials hit you like a 20-tonne truck, see?

I tend to call it the Random? No-way Generator!

Just a few questions

How are the different classes faring in lategame? I started out as a dual-wield (rapier + dagger) swordsman wearing light armor. The only magic I (frequently) used was "Cure". Magic seemed to be weak initially, but after getting some wind equipment i noticed that cyclone was a very, very effective spell for my level. Which build should i stick to?

Pure swordsman + light armor (kevlar pieces seem to be pretty good) + supporting magic

Pure mage + cloth armor

Is a hybrid possible? Dual-wielding, + cyclone/AOE? I don't think DW is bad, but it clearly holds a big disadvantage against later waves of ~8 enemies and I don't see any other solution to this problem soon. For example, I can't complete Item World because on round ~80-90 I've spent all my mana on cure and my battle equipment is used up. I would like to add some AOE to the mix, in order to be more effective against large groups (single target works fine).

Hybrid with cloth or light armor?

If someone might be willing to help, thanks in advance!

Ah, forgot something. Can I respec attributes or even start over from Lvl.1? I put many points in dex + agility, which propably won't be that useful as a mage. My aura choices would be questionable as well, and I don't know how to upgrade them. But I also read somewhere that one should keep his stats balanced until ~50. Any suggestions?

hujan86 > roughly two times the previous ones.

thereisnothing > There's no respe per se, but you can rework your stat points by clicking on the little + or - next to it if you want to make change. Abilities can also be respec (cost credits up to 10k). Auras can't be, but you'll unlock the next grades as higher levels.

As a melee, the only two options to use "AoE" would be Two Handed Weapons or Niten. The problem for a mix is that warrior and mage stuff doesn't mix well. You'll found yourself with high interference and low proficiencies bonus. Plus the weapon, all staffs for mages are two handed (so no staff + dagger for example (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)).

Hmmm thats kind of unfortunate :/ I can't play 2-handed, although it's just my personal principle whenever I play RPGs (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Too chunky for me. Niten looks good so far, but it doesn't raise my prof when I use it? So If I go with Niten, I am forced to do a lot of extra prof training while leveling I guess. Hmmm. Don't know if I do or don't mind it (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Maybe I'm just gonna try and see how long it takes to level up 2H after my Stamina recovers.

Let's say I end up going with Niten. Which magic abilities would be recommended to use as a "backup"? Cure of course, but something else? My warrior always has a lot of ability points left over. Should I invest points in intelligence, willpower or both?

Thanks for the quick answer.

All points come in handy anyway, but warriors shouldn't focus too much on INT, it's the less useful. WIS is important to grow your mana pool.

There's various spells useful for melee, mostly Supportive/Deprecating : Haste, Shadow Veil, Protection, Regen, Spark of Life, Spirit Shield, Earthseeker ; Weaken, Imperil Silence. You'll unlock most of them as you grow in lvls in your ability tab.

The absolute abilities you should go after anyway are the HP/MP/SP box.

I think dual wielding is generally better for the ring of blood, as you said it's kinda shit against multiple enemies. Play whatever style you like; I've never played mage so I can't advise you there but it seems to be pretty different from what I've heard.

Dunno... There's some gear out now that's sort of made to facilitate something like that (battlecaster suffix) but I don't know whether it actually works well or not. You'd be juggling a lot of AP between spells and your other stuff too, I think.

Two-handed melee does splash damage (domino strike), additionally you get an AoE attack with 50 and 100 proficiency in two-handed.

If you're on pretty bad gear right now, that also hurts you a lot, so your build will feel even worse than usual. PM me and let me know what gear you're using and I might be able to help you out with some free gear.
