With shields, the point is in Block chance, since they provide so little in terms of defense for their Compromise.

So it's shield necessary in the battle, what about haste, or I should save mana for healing purposes.

Can people share their opinion. How good is this piece?
Fine Gossamer Pants of Elementalist 39.99%
http://hentaiverse.org/pages/showequip.php...;key=50afc33b20

Is this considered rare or super valuable or is it just a bit above average? Are there plenty of other Pants with higher Elemental proficiency or is this just one of a handful in existence. I need some perspective to help gauge its value before making any further decisions.

Asking a question 15 minutes before the end of the auction?

Sorry I just wonder if its worth it to keep paying so much. I don't know if that 39.99 is considered once in a lifetime spectacular or something you could get occasionally with luck. And also that new bid is cutting it too close for me.

Nothing except pre-nerf phase and rare instances like Neko's magnificent rapier are once in a lifetime spectacular in my opinion.

That being said, Boggy's pants are quite good.

Link please. I want to see just whats so good about Boggy's pants. I need to set some kind of elemental cap to compare electric mage pieces because right now I have no standard to judge these proficiency numbers by besides my own crappy equipment.

My "crappy" equipment it's enough to beat any arena, at any difficulty:
Cap
Robe
Gloves
Pants
Shoes

If someone likes to spend hundreds of credits for better gear it's his own choice, not that's relevant to the final result.

Thats not bad. You got some nice gloves and the robe is fancy too. Besides the fact your proficiency is in the 20s or 30s I assume you also have monster high electric rating and damage multipliers at your level. At least now I have an idea of what is considered good crap vs not worth spending credits on crap.

I have 4 pairs that are just as good/better than that sitting around. (Well, maybe not with the evasion, but I'd give up a few percent to not have to deal with leveling it)

regarding battle strategies... are there any?

i usually try to kill the most damaging creature first, but then i started thinking killing them by turn-order would save me some damage

I've got a question. Say I'm trying out being a mage. I've got a battlecaster dragonhide helmet and an elementalist gossamer cap. The battlecaster helmet gives me better protection and more magic damage, while the elementalist cap gives me more elemental proficiency. Which is better to use?

Spell damage multiplier = 1 + prof / 200
That means a 12% increase to proficiencies equals a 6% increase to damage from elemental spell (which are most of them)
Also, that .55% interference from the battlecaster cap reduces your magic damage by .55%.

I guess the most important point is that battlecaster gear is almost never better than mediocre elementalist gear.

At least you can ignore the 0.55 Interference.

It's 1% of current interference.
Let's say you have 20% of reduction:
If you have 100 Interference -> you end getting 80 interference
If you have 20 Interference -> you end getting 16 interference

QUOTE(Boggyb @ Oct 15 2010, 22:19) *

Spell damage multiplier = 1 + prof / 200
That means a 12% increase to proficiencies equals a 6% increase to damage from elemental spell (which are most of them)

Rather, a 12 point increase in proficiency equals an increase of 6% of base damage.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, you have 50 Elemental proficiency, and your equipment (without the piece you're interested in) gives you +50 bonus. Your effective proficiency is 100, which gives you a damage multiplier of (1 + 100/200) = 1.5. Adding 12 proficiency brings that up to (1 + 112/200) = 1.56. That increase, as a percentage, is

(0.06 / 1.5) * 100 = 4%

The Battlecaster helmet gives you an effective damage increase of about 3%, though that depends on how much you already have from your staff. Of course, all of this is a huge oversimplification, since it ignores the effect of INT and WIS bonuses on your magic rating, and the effect of armour proficiency on all of the equipment stats...
