QUOTE(ShiningMeow @ Jan 1 2013, 00:49) So I stopped playing a while back and finally got back into it again. It was back when items had levels instead of scaling to your level. I'm uncertain if I want to stick with my mage build or try a melee one. I heard people say that a mace build was the hot thing right now.
I've been dying a bit recently in arenas because monsters started using soul attacks or whatever it's called (yellow text, 1.5k+ damage). I was doing fine on Hell up until that point but now I've started losing even on Hard. At this point, I can barely remember anything and the only goal I have right now is leveling up.
Suggestions on equipment regarding a mage or a melee build and any other tips would be appreciated. Also, I prefer the shorter but more exp per battle format now. Before discovering that I could take on up to Hell difficulty, I was always on normal, so I guess that's why I burnt out on the game from grinding so many rounds (70+).
Edit: Forgot to mention that I can handle Hell on hourly encounters.
Well...several issues: - You should get some more STR/DEX. Getting to ~80% won't hurt other stats while giving you a bit parry and defense. - Get your tier 2 elemental spells. It's more powerful, thus you'll need less mana for cures. And as you kill monsters in less rounds, it also helps to save mana on supportive spells. - If you have spare points, also pick important deprecating spells like weaken, imperil and silence (lv.110). It will be useful eventually, especially against gods. - Equips are the biggest problem. You should try to find some good elementalist or even stick to EDB phases of one particular element. Get yourself a ebony staff of destruction. Later you may want to change to holy/dark cycle, but right now what you need is boost in elemental spells. Fox/owl have been extinct and won't provide that much boost. - If instead you want to raise your difficulty, you can choose to be a melee. Things go slower but you can challenge higher difficulty. Heavy armor of protection suffix should be your first choice (possibly plate/power), and you can use either mace (more protection but slower), scythe (best ADB but lacks accuracy), katana (great accuracy boost but mediocre ADB), or estoc (PA will be better when you progress, but not so good at your level). Pick a sluaghter one if possible.

QUOTE(ahenayau @ Dec 31 2012, 07:03) The weapons seem good for your level. If you replace the axe in the future though I suggest looking for one with higher bleed percentage (axes go up to 20% DOT) and more turns. Also, one with higher damage, yours is okay but a little low. If I were you I'd look for something kinda like this, but with 4 PABs (that way you can get all butcher and swift strike when you go to level it). Same deal with the rapier, good for your level, but when you go to replace it look for one with higher accuracy, more turns on the proc, and four PABs. As for your armor, I'd say replace your greaves first. I'm sure you can find a pair of exquisite protection plate for relatively cheap (just make sure it has a high endurance roll, that goes for all your armor really, heavy armor without endurance is trash cause it fucks your PMI, which is one of the main advantages of heavy). Next I'd try to find some protection power pieces to replace the warding, you want stuff that improves your physical mitigation. The helmet has really low damage for slaughter too, you might as well go with protection there if you can't find one with a higher ADB. This post has been edited by T_Starrk: Dec 31 2012, 21:01

Edit: Forgot to mention that I can handle Hell on hourly encounters. Stats are mostly fine, though as Varst said I wouldn't let STR/DEX lag that much (right now you can get HP/PMI cheaper from STR than END). Abilities, dump the XP tanks and use the Adept Learner training instead. Especially thanks to new patches you'll be facing higher PL mobs, who give potentially large XP bonuses at higher difficulties (particularly once you hit Nightmare+ difficulty). Use the points for Weaken, Imperil, and at least 1 T2 spell (say Chain Lightning so you can Cyclone->Chain Lightning or Chain Lightning ->Inferno). Spark of Life comes in 7 short levels and it makes life so much easier (yay for not getting one-shot!). You can probably survive higher level REs if you start the fight with Haste->SV->Weaken EVERYTHING, then start blasting. You'll burn pots but whatever, the XP is more important. Your Phase/Gossamer is at least passable for now, though you'll want to swap it for better, newer Elementalist with no Burden and Phase of a specific element. A few patches ago Tenboro streamlined equipment a lot, made Cotton/Gossamer burdenless, dropped all PAB-suffixed equipment and buffed the PABs on everything to compensate. Focus Staves got a major boost, modern ones have Mana Conservation, so you are going to want to upgrade that Staff as your first equipment priority. Destruction, Elementalist and specific element are all viable there, since changes to how Accuracy is calculated and increased availability of EDB Phase means you no longer need a Focus staff to hit 100% accuracy at lower levels.

Hey folks, So level 200...yay! And more than a few new questions. Still working on my 2H proficiency.. at least it's up in the Mid 40's. However other than using the Assimilator to boost the proficiency faster, does it matter what the difficulty level is to get the random bonus? And does it matter what type of battle you are in? Second spell wise for a primarily melee light armor user, I figure X-nerf is useful all around, but what about spirit shield? It's as if you're trading damage off against a lethal blow that Spark of Life can save you from. Good, bad, ugly? Cure III actually necessary? Ability list: exp at 11 levels full (of 3), HP/MP/SP at 18 levels full, Overcharge at 2.4 levels full. Weaken, Haste, Shadow Veil, Spark of Life, Heart Seeker are maxed out. X-Nerf is at 2 of 5. Cure 1 and 2, Regen 1 & 2, Protection, X-Item, X-Attack, X-Magic, and anything associated with auras, infusions, and inventory slots are all active. Is there anything on there I should consider picking up or continue my original plan of finishing X-Nerf off and going back to work on the new row of HP/MP/SP and then continueo n working on the Overcharge. I suppose it helps that I've completed 42/100 on the ability boost. Although most likely my next training will be to unlock the last aura for the power boost there. Weapons... sigh. Currently looking for a better estoc for my 2H, and a better rapier for my DW (and of course better armor all around).. which costs money. Other than the couple of hundred credits (if lucky) for a battle a) is there something that can help in the boosting of credits one receives, and (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) since donating still seems to down for the moment, while I plan to do the H@H after upgrading my internet connection, I'm just looking to earn a few more credits here & there. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) To be honest I was hoping to already have the Gold Aura and a server slot at the beginning of this month, with my next shot to bring me into the 3 star zone, but such as life. Actually within reason, what can one make credit wise in one session without spending all day on here, and without having any extra ways of getting hath/credits other than just playing the game? Currently I'm at 85k, but that's only due to just beating the Trio & the Tree. I started the day at about 14k, barely enough to pay the Ability Boost. As for light armor, I know... get rid of Negation. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Working on it; just trying to find something in fleet or Shadowdancer that doesn't destroy my stats in the process. I've primarily looked for pieces with PAs around STR/DEX/Agi boosts, and preferably all 3, with any other PAs nice, but not necc. Should I be considering something different? Also, I think I'm rather picky in choosing the equipment to try to get close to equal or better stats so I'm not losing out too much, but other than the resist chance, what should I consider willing to sacrifice? I know Wis/Int don't mean too much to me, and I don't target endurance much either. Opinions/suggestions? laters, RRViper (of course I could sell the legendary mace in my sig; I've heard I could get quite a bit for it)

Having difficulty lately with my melee build. Is going full mage better or should I keep going melee?

Well, as a light armor user, I can say spirit shield is almost essential and easily replaces spark with its lower mana cost, lower sp drain and longer duration. The only time I would use spark is the last 25% of an item world, and I haven't died for 30 levels or so.
X-nerf isn't actually all that useful tbh, only for the random encounters, the mana cost is just too much to blow for one round. Since you don't care about mitigation or endurance, more reason to use spirit shield.

You're probably gonna have to spend a lot of credits to do this. It's a lot easier/cheaper to buy high quality negation than it is high quality fleet/SD. I recommend you keep looking though so you can finally have the stat boosts in the relevant categories instead of... resist. Just make sure the PABs are similar or greater on your new piece of equipment then you won't have to worry that it will affect your stats in a negative way (see the wiki for how each PAB affects your stats so you can get an idea of how they'll effect your stats too). As for what you can sacrifice, probably resist (well, you'll have to sacrifice resist if you are giving up negation) and magical mitigation, and maybe accuracy too (you should have enough accuracy now where a few percentage points won't matter much). But really, you're high enough level now where you should start looking for really nice stuff, basically stuff that hardly sacrifices anything. QUOTE(RRViper @ Dec 31 2012, 12:21) I don't target endurance much either.
This is a mistake, imo. Endurance will help make up for the low PMI of shade. Personally, I like to look for shade with all four of the melee PABs (Str, Dex, Agi, and End). If the piece is missing one of those then I won't buy it. Intelligence is useless while wisdom on a piece is a nice bonus but not necessary. This post has been edited by T_Starrk: Jan 1 2013, 00:12

I'm still waiting for a build that grants: 8 base damage roll, limited to duel-wield, no mitigation, 5 base dex and agi, 2% base crit, 70% evade and 70% parry (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) This post has been edited by fishinsea: Jan 1 2013, 00:47

That's why I went Kevlar while leveling. Very reliable and cheap light armor. It was like ~200k for all slots exquisite protection with all 4 melee PABs and 2 of them with a bonus of Int. As for AP spending, I personally think MP tanks are very overrated. Filling them out increases your pool by an additional 156%. For me that's around 600, approximately 3 casts of regen 2. In a 100 round arena, if you spend 100mp a round (that seems pretty conservative, a little more than one support spell a round give or take), thats 10000MP. All 52 AP points result in 6% more mana for the rounds, not including using any MP potions.

Where else would you dump the 52 points? Spirit tank is basically the same thing and it's not like you'll be casting every deprecating and offensive spell. The mp tanks are like 1.5 pack rat trainings, and while not essential, it's better than whatever else you can get. Also they let you use mana elixirs in case you want to do something crazy like explore the 5000th round of grindfest (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I suppose you can go for exp boost but where are you gonna put those AP from leveling faster? Also, it's more like 50 mana per round This post has been edited by fishinsea: Jan 1 2013, 00:56

100 mana per round sounds pretty high for a melee

Not having anywhere else to put them isn't a reason to train them to begin with. It could instead be a new equipment with the unspent credits.

The true value of MP tanks is from the presence of mana gems
edit: also, mana cost will only continue to go up regardless of your mana pool size. mana tanks are important for making sure you reap full benefits from mana gems while making sure you aren't at risk of blowing all your mana on a few spells.

50 levels of ability boost is cheap, and easily worth the boost what is practically a 1.5 pack rat slot. It also gets more significant as you level because your original mana pool will be able to sustain more rounds with higher profs. Mana gems (and natural mp regen) will also shine from it.
Whatever equipment upgrade you can get with that money will also be far less influential than spent on ability points

It's 2.6 million credits for AP. Pack Rat costs 100k last point, 300k total. I think that can buy something nice and is substantially more cost than 1.5 pack rat rank. While I's say the first 50% bonus to your mp in order to absorb excess is very important, I would maintain the last 100% isn't as valuable. Can you explain how it gains significance with levels or rounds? Starting MP is less important the more rounds you go, not less . . . . Mana gems give 50% of base MP, not 100%, so with +50% base you can blow them at 2/3 mana without loss. I don't see how mana gems make you want to have a larger starting pool. In fact, they increase your effective regen, which further devalues initial pool.

Fyi: Innate arcana uses your MP pool with tanks included for dissipation and appearing.
But it is nowhere near 2.6 mil credits for AP - I doubt 50th level costs even 15k
