QUOTE(PK678353 @ Dec 16 2012, 09:18) <News announcer voice>
The PONIES index is down 2.4 points from yesterday, continuing a mild downward 'wait for the next patch' trend. Mayan Doomsday speculation has been driving up the cost of Hath, up 5.6% last month. The market for Power Slaughter and Fenrir Phase is bullish, the Elemental Phase and Kevlar markets are looking rather bearish this season, off over 50% from their peaks 2 years ago. Figurine and artifact markets holding steady with slight inflation in the Energy Drink market due to a shortage of Welsh Pixies, and a new trend of bundling is driving lower wholesale crystal prices.
Forge materials track closely to associated equipment prices, except HG Cloth which is artificially depressed by a continuing shortage of Crystallized Phazon. Speculation in the Bindings market continues to inflate the price of Slaughter bindings, while Elemental Resist bindings appear to have hit rock bottom.
Back to Bob for the weather report. . .

If you have been using heavy armor, then you should have enough protection to choose estoc over mace.

Mace lost the damage bonus on stunned enemies and enemies coming out of stun get a free hit in now (no more permastun either, it doesn't reapply on stunned enemies).
Mace is the go-to 2H weapon for Shade users generally, who need the Stun to keep alive, whereas Heavy users tend to do a mix of Power Slaughter, Power Protection and Plate Protection and go for Estoc at high difficulty and Scythe at low difficulty (where the bleed actually means something). Mace basically has to be Ethereal or fully IW'd for Hollowforged, Slashing and Piercing can get away with not being Void for a while.

QUOTE(billyismad @ Dec 16 2012, 17:01) Edit: as a mage would there be any time i would ever melee a monster or use spirit points ?
Yes, you will melee a monster to ether thef(usually longer arena or IW). Spirit points for safeguard your health using Spark of Life(lv 100) or Spirit Shield(lv 190) edit:don't use cotton; change to gossamer or phase This post has been edited by t15: Dec 16 2012, 18:15

How come you are sending it to a 215lvl Gold Star Godslayer? Aint your pity generally directed toward cotton-leather-mixing newbies?

So, is Real Life just designed to be unbeatable for mages? I was just completely destroyed by it because not one of my spells did more than a couple hundred damage except for spell explosions, and looking at the wiki, its not listed as being vulnerable to ANY damage type.
Experimenting because I wasn't able to move it's health bar anyway and i was in the fight, I found whacking it with my staff was about as effective as using my magic. ><

Well...take a look at some suggestionsIt isn't that much difficult to kill on normal. If you want the 'safe' route, you may even wait till 110 and use silence. If there's still any problem, check your equips. QUOTE(billyismad @ Dec 16 2012, 23:01) here is my current equipment after i switched to mage from 2h
i'm currently using elec aoe spells at the moment planning to get fire spell when i get more abilty points
any suggestions on how what abilities i should have and what equip i should look for would be appreciated
- Pick elementalist or mjolnir clothes to boost your damage. The ones you're using won't help. Find those with INT/WIS, preferably also with AGI, and have good EDB/proficiency. - Pick a ebony staff. You may start with destruction immediately. - Pick 2 different type of spell for explosion damage (like elec/fire) ASAP. Pick both tiers and mix them to see how you can kill most efficiently. - Pick haste and shadow veil, and use them. If you want to do BT/IWBTH random, also pick weaken. Imperil will also be useful against bosses/legends/gods. That's it right now. See if you have further questions. This post has been edited by varst: Dec 16 2012, 19:19

Hey folks,
Two quick questions, both somewhat on the same subject.
Since hitting Lvl 170 and still playing primarily DW until I can get 2H proficiency up to equal or better level, with a preference to shade armor, is it worth the time & hassle to add points to the Imperil and the recently unlocked Heartseeker abilities?
And what is the max proficiency one can reach in this game?
laters,
RRViper (I'll save the dumb question of the day for another time)

Imperil is good when you are not using anything with PA, since they do pretty much the same job. Heartseeker is very important for melees. Most of the time you'll like to cast it on channeling to get the maximum duration possible. Proficiency from your character is limited to your level. It can be further increased by wearing gossamer armor, but most of the time you don't need that extra prof. This post has been edited by varst: Dec 16 2012, 19:24

I recall hearing somewhere that mages should use magic missile against real life?
Heartseeker should be maxed ASAP, imperil isn't as useful for melee since you can easily get PA from weapon proc/skills.

Tbh, you'll probably end up wanting to switch to heavy armours w/ 2h after a while. I've found the lack of the parry bonuses is really noticable (and painful) when trying to 2h with something other than a mace wearing shade, and the loss of PA makes it slow going doing the higher difficulties. It's fine for training 2h prof in iwbth crude IW as though with the occasional regen2 when required.
Plus, facerolling the numpad to victory is fun.

Strange are the monster stronger at the 1-2 round. I have always trouble at these first rounds(not much but still more than at the other rounds), they inflect so much damage at the start. At least i have the feeling that the rounds after these first 2 are quite easier ...

It depends, the higher the level the better the drops + more proficiency per level(not sure about that though). I would recommend u to play on the highest level u can win on but u have to decide that on your own. But im not sure if IWBTH is even possible at your level I think i started to play on IWBTH around level 70-90.
