My goal is to go to the Item World until lvl 140-150 without using pots on cake mode. Can you guys give me some tips on equipment to use and such?

Use 1HS and cakefest in Item World. Get a piece of flimsy to grind in. Even with half crap gear, you should last up to round 80-100. or so, to speak. Take some of the lesser potions with you into cakefest. I know you don't want to use potions but Lesser draughts and potions aren't useful outside cakefest anyways. You'll need higher class draughts and pots for the real stuff in the future.


Oh, make sure your flimsy is over lvl 140 or something. Do that for ten times a day, and you should rise pretty fast. And you'll get pretty bored real fast also.

PS: The part regarding Lesser draught and pots, if you run out, then don't bother bringing any and just grind as is. Don't let your burden get over 70 or so and interferance over 50. Then opt for the best physical absorption you can get within those limitations. Mitigation doesn't work well until you reach to about lvl 80 and over.

Heavy (Plate) if you're planning to stay on Cake, Heavy+Evade Silk if you want to do other things once you level up enough. And frankly, Cotton is useless, as is the majority of Light. On Cake, you'll want Absorb, since its raw damage rather than the percentage Mitigation knocks off. Also think about putting more into WIS so you can cast Cure more often. When you run out of MP, you die.

Not much, but it's rarer to find than a crude item, stick with a crude until you get one.

Find a cheap cheap Crude piece instead of a flimsy, use that to grind for now. Then see if someone else puts up flimsy for sale and buy another one to grind in.

It's always nice to have a backup flimsy / crude JUST IN CASE you accidentally finish off the item world by mistake and lock up the item. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Yes. The lousier the quality the easier it is in item world.

I'm having a Bit of trouble as a mage right now. I find that the damage I take and the large amount of the time my spells are resisted forces me to use cure so much that my pool is drained before long. I have practically no credits to speak of and I'm pretty sure most of my kit is not very good. I think my stats are okay but obviously I'll listen to the experts if you think I'm neglecting one. I've tried to do the 10th arena level like 4 times now and each time I've lost my 1k entrance fee. This has led me to not try any further because I still feel like I'm getting the crap kicked out of me way to fast. Any advice on ability pt spread, equipment for mages, or if I should give up my current outlook as a mage would be appreciated.

Prioritize HP/MP Tanks and Elec then Fire spells. Train more AP and/or pull points out of non-essential spells (Poison, Haste, Condemn). Get the third Aura Slot and active Yellow or Green. Get rid of the Leather and put on more Gossamer. Use a Focus staff if you're missing too much.

thracian, pull out all your EXP bonuses. You don't need them. If you think your current exp gains are lousy, then grind on a Superior or Exquishit item in item world. You don't have all the elemental AOE spells, and you count yourself as a mage? Allocate the points to the buff spells also if you can. Don't get the elemental resist abilities neither. You don't need those yet.

Regarding condem, that is optional. I would prioritize in getting buffs and stuff first. Holy spells are counted as tier 2 spells, hence it uses twice the amount of time to cast compared to your first tier ice fire wind elec spells. Like you said, mage can't take alot of hits. You need the extra turn to heal yourself instead of losing two turns due to using tier 2 spells and get killed by a double hit.

Yea, get the extra aura and put your flame resist into mana tanks or something. Then max out the AOE spells. I haven't used holy spells unless it's against a boss which is weak to holy.

Let's see what the others might have missed...
As a mage
- you want as little interference as possible, so try to go with silk, gossamer, or the elusive phase. Light armor is okay if it has the "of the battlecaster" extension. You'll probably want to look for elementalist gear in the future which comes from the gossamer and phase types.
- For magic, I'd go with what cmal said: lightning and then fire.
- For abilities: also like he said, hp and magic
- For a staff, personally I'd use specifically ebony staffs of focus or destruction. Some people like of elementalist. Ebony staffs boost elemental damage.

Hello, Experts. I'm looking for some general advice as far as where I should proceed with my stats/spells from here on out.

Note: I recently switched to maging from melee, hence why my Staff prof is so low lol.

I have PA rapier/dagger + some evade stuff as secondary set. Doesn't seem relevant enough to post though.

Some questions:
I got that 1 point of wind for the Blue Slimes but it seems better just to use Fire anyways, so when I reset, that'll go away. How much should I lag my other stats behind wis/int? Do I need Dex/Str at all? I mean a certain amount is good for when I want to used a rapier or axe for gods correct?

Will Chain Lightning continue to be my spell of choice until I can get Tier 3 Elec? Should I bother with the Soul tree coming up? Should I bother with the Holy trees right now? I've cleared the first 4 bosses + Konata in the RoB. I don't plan on trying the others for a little while yet.

I find that when doing Item World/Grindfest when I run into a Boss, it requires a fairly large mana usage to bring him down efficiently, since I no longer have PA + Poison/Spirit to rely on. I've just been using weaken/bewilder/poison and blasting away. I can't think of a better way really. When I get to the point where I start running into Bosses at the end of arenas, should I go in with standard Elementalist gear, or some hybrid?

Lastly, I find that I can't QUITE kill everything in one round (assuming no resists). Enemies that aren't weak to Elec often survive with a bit of life (and Blue Slimes/some Minibosses of course). I assume better equip/proficiency (replace the shoes for example) will solve this problem, hopefully. If anyone has some improved Elementalist gear they want to sell me, I'm interested (but kinda poor (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) )

Sounds like you didn't check the wiki yet, check it. Use standard elementalist, what you need is holy and cold.

Thunderstorm works well if there aren't too many enemies, but I find that in higher levels of IW/Grind/Arena (when there are 8 or 9 enemies), I end up taking more damage. More enemies survive longer -> I take more damage despite the higher speed. I'll keep trying as I level up though. The lower mana cost is attractive as is. I have been using the wiki, but I didn't see any advice regarding clearing the higher level arenas. I could have missed it though. There's a section with advice on how to kill Bosses in the RoB (using PA), but it's impractical for me for arenas, as I can't properly clear the 20+ rounds prior to the boss without a staff. But basically, have the necessary elemental tree for each boss's weakness. Got it.

Yeah, the stuff I have now I purchased from people's shops in the WTS thread. I may make a WTB thread in a day or two, once I've saved up some more credits.

The only solution is to level up I guess.

Well the best is to kill them faster, so the higher tier better, but since you don't have the necessary spells you have to stick to the magic missile trying to recover MP. It will be long, but at least you don't lose MP, plus in higher rounds of Grind/IW they'll mean death.
