Experiment Goal

• To determine how Shield rating effected on received physical damage.

Test Subject

• LV-106 Naked character at without any auras; Shield rating = 231
• LV-106 Naked character with Red, Yellow aura at rank 3 and Orange aura at rank 2; Shield rating = 236
• LV-106 HP-1141 Fire Fox in first round of Griendfest at Normal difficulty in both test.

Experiment Method

• Keep doing Focus and healing when needed.
• Record and Analyze the battle log.
• First 45 normal attacks (No crit, skill) that hit are use to find an Min-Max and average damage received.

Experiment Results

• With 231 Shield rating: Lowest=89 Highest=134 Average=111.27
• With 236 Shield rating: Lowest=78 Highest=131 Average=112.27

Conclusions

• While it seem that Shield rating did lower low-highest damage that the mobs will do, luck still play a large part on average damage received. With more Shield rating than 5 and/or different mobs, the results maybe more significant, albeit subtle.

What I meant was that I consistently have to tell lower leveled people to get heavy. At level 33, you can evade all attacks with enough absorption.
Yes, cloth is better for higher difficulties. But, heavy is still useful in flimsy even at level 95 with stats distributed as a mage. I last twice as long with heavy as I do with cloth.

I find that using cloth at those low levels is useless. While you dodge a lot of the attacks, incoming attacks that you don't dodge - deal damage. It may be minute, but eventually you have to cast regen or something.

But when in heavy gear, incoming attacks do no damage. The absorb is so high that despite the mobs going 2-3 turns per your every 1 turn, they still deal 0 damage. So who gives a fuck how many turns they get.

What kind of heavy are you talking about? I'm already wearing a Heavy Chainmail Average Ruby Level 169, Heavy Leg armor level 170, Boots Lv 171, Gauntlets 174, and Hevay Helm level 172! I don;t see how this can get any more heavy??? My interference is 121.5 and Burden is 121.1. I cannot cast any offensive spells or weaken and the mobs get 2-3 shots at me for every hit I do on them. I am taking 20-30 dmg per turn on Easy level alone! Normal is now 50-60 damage against just regular mobs. Even Cake is getting difficult when I get to 100 levels or more in IW. Doesn't this look like I need some cloth or silk right about now?

It would be easier to answer that question if you posted the links to your equipment. Being high level doesn't necessarily mean it's any good, you know.

No. Where would you get that idea? The spells you can set to autocast are the same at level 4 as they are they are at 1.

They were both discussed before, IA let use regen not gonna happen, too overpowering (plus you can already see regen as IA cure).

I have a question though. Which kind of staff is best for Ether theft? I assume even at level 148 you would take damage when going through 200+ levels of Item World at Normal or above. Do you just use Mana to heal? Potions would run out quick so what is the most reliable method to regenerate HP or MP for long runs? Do you just steal mana from mobs and use that to heal? Right now the all Silk armor Im wearing is an improvement at avoiding some damage and dishing out more allowing me to win battles faster. But I still can only last 30-32 Levels in IW on Normal, 50-60 levels on Easy and 70-80 on Cake. I want to know how do you manage 200 without running out of potions or mana??

At those levels mana gems, and second winds are enough to restore the MP. Trying to get ET from a mob in +200 rounds which have 150% extra damage do more harm than good.
Look to do this you don't use ET at all, but you need enough power from staff and proficiency and ratings to kill all mobs in 1 shot, then enough acc, and finally good base MP/level rate. All things you can only get at higher levels.

That was already answered, cake/easy stick with heavy, and level up a lot.

That example you posted is pretty good. It does help more if you post armor in terms of a number range. So what I really needed to get was Heavy with Phys Absorption 11.5 and Phys Mitigation 4.3% and the current set I have is too low right? Still its easy to see thats good armor to wear but where to get it is the problem for me. Its not like a Magnificent suit of Mithril will drop from the next Blue Slime I kill and I don't exactly have a billion credits to spend like Belldandy does. (I've been playing for days since I bought Archaelogist and no matter what difficulty (cake, easy, normal) I never got a single artifact drop. I, burden down I do not think the value of a little more depending on the equipment.

In my case, "Short Sword of the Battlecaster" and "buckler of the Battlecaster", it "light armor" and "cloth armor" equipped with state interference in the value of 20.1, burden is the value of 32.9.
Similarly, "staff" and "cloth armor" when equipped with, interference value of 0, burden is the value of 24.9.
At this time, I have used "Gossamer" and "Phase" I equipment.

What browser you're using firefox or chrone? I think in firefox you need to press Ctr+C instead. (Don't use IE, it's not fully compatible with HV)

Lol I have to laugh to that, it's like you're teaching me (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) killing all mobs in 1-shot can only be done by AoE spells. You don't actually believe you can be super powerful right in the beginning of game? Level up at least +100 levels and you can do the same. Spell's MP cost depend on level, mana restoratives and 2nd winds depend on base MP, and base MP grows faster than level at +100 levels.

Silk if good for melee charaters, but I get ~3.5% evade at my level, when good evade gear at level 0 have that or more.
Here's the link. Elementalist gives more "power" damage to elemental spells. Get 5 good pieces = great damage.

Make a WTB request, and hope for offers. I don't know the exactly range, but like I said before protection suffix brings more physical absorption.

I'm using IE right now. I'll have to look into getting firefox for that. No wonder the interface was tricky!

No I don't have any staff yet. I currently dual wield two rapiers, thats where the interference comes from. I'll list the weapons I got below:

For cakefests and IW I suggest when using heavy to use a longsword/katana (I use this one when bleed kicks in, it's instant kill). you kill more mobs in less turns that way.

For normal, rapier + high parry dagger, like say this one and silk.
That way you evade a lot of the attacks + parry some of them that come through your evasion.

I advise you against that, use battlecasting to specific proposes like RoB, but not for griding.
I you want to kill by spells stick with staff.

Your rapier is good, but don't use towers yet, and only use good ones, stick with kites. The most important stat for shields is block chance.

I'm repeating myself again, but in cake/easy full plate for max absorption. 1HS will make you go farther, but it's the slowest comparatively with 2W/2H.
Normal-> at lower levels 4 pieces of evade silk + 1 heavy body plate, +100 levels -> full silk, kevlar only if it's very good.
Weapons-> depend of what propose you what, try yourself different weapons, but in general people use a rapier in main-hand, high parry dagger/high damage axe for off-hand, longsword/katana for 2H.

Use weaken on mini-bosses, and raise proficiencies. Most of high level people are mages because it's faster, not because it's powerful, you can clear all arenas until EoD (L220) without items regardless the fighting style, but you need a very good gear and high proficiencies to do it.

Well, I do use 2H for the sake of grinding faster. It takes too long to kill every mob 1 by 1 for me.

Hitting one mob and one shotting 4 other mobs right next to it is so satisfying.

I find 1H to be faster than DW when doing IW since my 1H build can kill mobs mostly in 2 hit just as my DW and you could also counter. But you will going to have pretty low evade and a high block shield for this to happen.

But 1H at low LV usually have some accuracy problem... That's why I use DW most of the time at around LV 50-80

Now I started using 2H for IW again, It's faster, but more tiresome to play.. simply because of the bug. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Grind IW by going on a low difficulty and a low quality item (or if you have good gear, you can go higher difficulty and higher quality item. I go cake/fair atm)
Why? It gives the most XP. And, it drops items/equip/artifacts like candy.

Doing daily arenas/grindfesting is a waste of time IMO. I rarely do them at all, but I always finish 10 IW levels. And I level up 1 level per day consistently. Sometimes I even manage 2 levels a day.

You get a crapload of XP and if your training is high enough, you get 1-3 potions per round. I can usually sell of all the useless potions/scrolls/infusions and whatnot for about 10-15k per day. Plus, selling random equips I get another 5-10k credits.
that's 15-25k per day. Plus, I get usually at least 1 artifact a day.
